  • Economy over Environment: The Limited Coverage of Louisiana’s Oil Spill


    Louisiana’s oil spill is releasing 42,000 gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico, sure to threaten wildlife and resources.

    It’s not hard to wonder why people are seemingly apathetic when it comes to environmental issues when there isn’t more focus going towards environmental emergencies that could cause severe degradation to natural resources and wildlife. Did you know that right now approximately 42,000 gallons of oil per day is pouring into the water just 36 miles from the Louisiana coast? You may have if you’ve known where to look, but sadly this environmental emergency of epic proportions isn’t receiving the media attention that it should be.

  • Should Going Green Come With Big Monetary Costs? Ontario’s Electricity Hike

    Wind turbines will be included as part of Ontario's $8 billion in approved green energy projects which will increase energy costs

    Green initiatives typically aren’t cheap, meaning that some individuals are able to afford to dive all in to the green movement and others have to pick and choose due to financial constraints. In some cases, the big monetary costs don’t seem justified, in others, it makes sense that new innovations might be a bit more pricey particularly when there is a measurable benefit or even a long-term savings for the user. The latest green controversy surrounds a major hike in electricity prices set to take place in Ontario, Canada.

  • Looking at the Wrong Side of the Issue: World Water Innovations

    Due to lack of water in Peru, locals are forced to harvest fog to convert it into a usable resource. The world water shortage is a crisis and we need to look at the right side of the issue.

    There are many developments taking place around the world that are acts of desperation. The issues often go unrealized because we focus upon the innovations that people are using for the sake of survival. We’re focused too greatly upon just how resourceful people are being rather than looking at the reasons why they are forced into commiting those acts that they do in order to get by day after day.

  • “Most Threatened” Species Category Doesn’t Include Animals that Need the Most Help

    The International Union for the Conservation of Nature released a report early last month that included categorizations of the most threatened species in the world, including well over 600 primate species that are at risk due primarily to human activities; primarily the degredation of their natural environments. While this information is certainly eye-opening and motivates individuals worldwide to try and make changes to help the threatened species; something was seriously lacking in this report.
