  • Fear of Needles?

I have been reading a lot on here about insulin and the Fear of needles…

YES…I am one who is too. BUT…I used:

    BD Company BD Insulin Syringes – Ultra-Fine Needle – 3/10cc 30g 12.7mm (1/2 in) 90ct BD Micro-Fine IV Needle Insulin Syringes 1 cc Needle Size- 30 G x 1/2" Box of 100 BD328411 @ $25.00 (they where covered by insurance)

Granted my wife injected me ( and seemed to enjoy it…hmmmm). Although I have injected myself in the past. I think people have the misconception that you inject straight in 1/2 inch. My doctor taught us to inject at a 30 degree angle…and…you dont have to ‘seat’ the needle all the way down to the vial in the injection area 😮 .

I was on insulin for 2 years and never had a major problem. The wife would occasionally hit a ‘nerve’ but those times where rare. I would rather have a 1/10 second injection and be done with it then remembering to take, and swallowing these ^*&%*&^$*^$*^% pills…JMO 😉

  • Metformin dosage questions…

I was on 500×2 for 2 years with little affect. My wife said our Doctor increased me to ‘4 a day’. I see some take 1000×2.

    Question…is 1000×2 the same as ‘4 a day’ -OR- ‘one 4 times a day’ ???

If I take 2 pills at the same time in the morning and 2 at the same time in the afternoon…will my BG drop faster then ‘one 4 times a day’ ?? 🙂

Will 2/500’s at a time make me spew green slime and make my head spin around? 😮

    TIA

  • Hi…new kid on the block here.

I have been posting in the intro thread…figure its time I come out here with the rest of you. Other then what I have posted in there…I have one question for now.

I take Metformin 4 times a day. Here is my daily schedule:

    Wake at 5AM…take a reading

    Take a Metformin soon after

Take a reading prior to breakfast

Take a Metformin just before 10 AM

    Breakfast at 10AM

Take a 2 hr. reading at NOON

    Snack at noon

    Take a reading before lunch

Take a Metformin just before lunch

    Lunch at 2PM

Take a 2 hr. reading at 4 PM

    Snack at 4PM

    Take a reading before dinner

Take a Metformin just before dinner

    Dinner at 6PM

Take a 2 hr. reading at 8 PM

    Snack at 10PM

Take a reading just before bedtime

    In bed at 1030PM

Somewhere in there I excersize. 🙂

At this point I am taking my Metformin at 5 am…10am…2pm…and at 6pm.
Here is the question…does the medication times fit in with my schedule…or should I be taking them at different times? TIA

  • Today is the first day of the rest of my life !

I am 60 years old and disabled. I was diagnosed 4 years ago. My doc put me on Lantus with a Humulin kicker. All was going well. Last year he said I was doing so well he took me off Lantus and put me on Metformin. My BG has been so wacky since its unreal. To make matters worse…I have liver problems. I went to an oncologist and he says I have cirrhosis of the liver. I dont drink alcohol at all…ever. My BG stays in the 400-500 range during the day. Doc has me on metformin 4 times a day now. Unfortunately…medicare wont let me on Part B without a monthly 150.00 ‘penalty’ for not going on Part B 4 years ago ! ( I had decent insurance back then). NOW the insurance company has basicallty kicked me off and I cant afford the 200.00 office visit to my doctor ! I want to go back on Lantus…but cant without at least one visit to my doctor … grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I have been reading this forum for about 2 weeks now. I am learning a lot about diet, metformin, and everything else about diabetes. I have gotten on a ‘no white stuff" diet. I am watching my carbs. My wife is helping me with all this…bless her heart. As far as Lantus and needles…I hate needles! BUT with the super fine syringes and my wife volunteering to inject me…it was a breeze! I used to ‘pinch an inch’ on my stomach and she would ‘just do it". It was really painless. The Lantus worked well. The metformin doesnt. I will continue to read all I can…watch my diet…take my pills…and hope I can get back to my doctor very soon and get back on THE GOOD STUFF…thnxs
