Troubled former child star Gary Coleman is in critical condition in a Salt Lake City hospital after suffering a head injury in a fall in his Utah home on Wednesday, KTLA is reporting.

The former Diff’rent Strokes actor, 42, was admitted to a medical facility and underwent emergency surgery after the accident, according to Gary’s brother-in-law.

Coleman — who suffers from a congenital kidney disease which requires frequent dialysis and suffered two seizures early in the year — recently reunited with his young wife Shannon following a brief estrangement.

The couple now own a dog breeding business.

Last night’s Season 9 finale drew its lowest audience since the talent show’s first season finale in the summer of 2002; only 22.8 million viewers tuned in that year. An estimated 24.2 million viewers tuned in to watch dark horse paint salesman Lee DeWyze beat projected winner Crystal Bowersox to victory, according to preliminary ratings figures issued Thursday. Despite a grand finale that served as Simon Cowell’s swan song as the bitter voice of reason on the judge’s panel, the Idol audience shrank from 28.8 million last year and 31.6 million in 2008.

Nearly 7 million people tuned in to watch the “Most Hated Man In America” explain what he was thinking when he stepped out on one of Hollywood’s most gorgeous women with a tattooed chick who calls herself Bombshell.

According to TVByTheNumbers.com, Jesse James’ Tuesday night interview with Nightline ABC’s Vicki Mabrey — filled with tales of alleged child abuse — attracted 6.817 million total viewers, the show’s highest ratings since the newsmagazine returned to the tube in 2005.

The actress-comedienne has a bone with Dancing producers over their casting of Scherzinger, who out-waltzed Olympian Evan Lysacek and ESPN’s Erin Andrews to be named DWTS champion on Wednesday’s finale. Nash would have enjoyed crowning a champ who showed progress throughout the competition. However, Nicole, as you may recall, has been hailed one of the best technical performers the show has every seen.

So while Nicole and pro partner Derek Hough are doing victory dances all over the Big Apple, Niecy is getting chatty about her displeasure with the whole thing.

“I like to see the growth,” the former Clean House host — who made it to the show’s Top 5 before being eliminated two weeks ago — spilled to PEOPLE Thursday. “Nicole today is who she was when she got here — she was a great dancer and she still is.”

“There were moments you couldn’t tell her from the pro dancers,” Niecy continued.

But is that such a bad thing? After all, DWTS is a dancing competition. Niecy thinks casting rhythmically-inclined performers, like Nicole, defeats the purpose of a competition.

“Dancing With the Stars is something that resonates with me when the contestants have a journey. I was such a big fan of Kelly Osbourne last year because she had the most transformation,” she added. “I cheer for the people who have evolved. To me, that’s what the competition should be.”

The gang of Jersey Shore are fist-pumpin’ it with Spanish crooner Enrique Iglesias and Latin hip-hopster Pitbull. Snooki, The Sitch, and the rest of the crew will make their music video debut in the vid for Enrique’s new single, “I Like It,” featuring Pitbull. The uptempo song is the lead track off of the forthcoming Jersey Shore soundtrack, which also features club bangers by Lil Jon, LMFAO, Taio Cruz and Akon. According to TMZ.com, the GTL guys and girls are filming the video today in Miami, before heading back to their old stomping ground in Seaside Heights.

The Jersey Shore Soundtrack is due in stores July 20.

Lynn Hirschberg just happens to be the journalist who penned the NYT’s somewhat-unflattering profile on the “Paper Planes” emcee, published Wednesday.

Crystal Bowersox isn’t just adapting to her role as an American Idol runner-up — the soulful single mom is also adjusting to life as a single woman.

In a surprising piece of news stemming from the A.I. finale showdown, Bowersox — who lost the crown to paint salesman Lee DeWyze in last week’s Idol grand finale — has revealed that she split with her boyfriend just hours before Tuesday night’s three-piece performance show. The two parted ways Tuesday with Tony traveling back to their hometown of Toledo, Ohio a single man.

“Big Tony…he went home. He wasn’t cool with the lifestyle,” Crystal told Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM morning show on Thursday. “I didn’t break up with him…it was a mutual thing.
