  • ZyXEL Launches the First LTE Router With the ZLR-2070S

    zyxelrouter.jpg

ZyXEL is at the forefront of networking technology yet again in the consumer electronics segment with their latest release, touted to be the first fixed LTE (Long Term Evolution) CPE/SOHO router in the world. The model, known as the ZLR-2070S, is basically an all-in-one, multi-service gateway which leverages compact, system-on-a-chip (SoC) technology in order to deliver cost-effective, non-FPGA-based LTE connectivity to the masses. LTE is most possibly going to be the next big thing, so to speak, in wireless communications technology as it is full well capable of delivering blazing-fast multimedia connectivity on an all-IP platform. Consumers who have gone for LTE would definitely tell you the stark difference in upgrade of performance and services over Internet-enabled fixed and mobile devices that are connected via LTE. Apart from that, LTE also opens up a whole new era of connectivity across various industries which include (but are not limited to) consumer electronics, appliances, health care, public utilities and telematics. Regardless of whether it is meant for residences or SOHOs, the ZLR-2070S aims not to disappoint by offering a feature-rich, future-proof hardware platform that is optimized for multi service. This will comprise of broadband Internet connectivity, a couple of VoIP ports, home networking through a four-port, 11n wireless switch, a USB port which allows you to hook up a plethora of devices including printers and storage. Service providers are also able to take advantage of the ZLR-2070S by enabling Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) support and other smart home automation services. You will find that the ZLR-2070S boasts superior data rates of up to 50Mbps throughput in theory, which is much speedier compared to current 3G technologies like HSPA/EV-DO. The router’s 4G wireless connectivity makes it ideal for operators who want to offer such a service in rural or other traditionally under-served markets where new wireline deployments are normally cost-prohibitive. Apart from that, the level of portability afforded makes the ZLR-2070S perfect for virtually any scenario where customers require high-speed, multi-user Internet access in a temporary location. Bosses ought to love this as there would no longer be any more excuse for their minions to claim that there is no Internet connection in the vicinity – assuming 4G connectivity is widespread worldwide.

  • Textminator Arcade Game the Latest Action Stand Up Video Game

    textminator.jpg

While it may seem that stand-up video games are practically a thing of the past, and there has not been a decent one since Dance Dance Revolution. Since home versions of the game along with Guitar Hero/Rock Band have pretty much eclipsed stand-up video game glory, it’s nice to see someone trying to renew it with Textminator. As you can see, someone has even used the safety bars on the DDR game, but made the subject matter of the competition not dancing, but texting, something that the teens these days are really, really good at. So why not make an arcade game where players must “face-off” with each other on stainless steel phone-like keypads? It sort of reminds me of MasterType, a very old-school computer program that helped me learn to type. In that game, the player had to save a spaceship by typing in the correct sequence of letters to shoot the guns to destroy the aliens. I am assuming the player does a similar sort of game in Textminator. What makes this game unique is that not only can the high-scoring player enter in their initials, but the Textminator has a built-in camera so the player can snap a pic of themselves for a virtual wall of fame. So, let’s see how Textminator plays out in a modern video arcade. Perhaps it will spawn Textminator 2: Judgment Page.

  • The Nokia NoiseBuster Cancels Noise Protects Ears

    noisebuster.jpg

Research has shown that most men have shorter lives than women due to the type of lifestyles they lead – including late nights of boozing with their mates, being in a high-pressured job, undergoing plenty of stress as he wonders how is he going to pull his family through a crisis, and perhaps even engaging in crazy stunts and sports for that bit of adrenaline rush. Well, most men too would be involved with the use of power tools, and is tasked with mowing the lawn with NASCAR race attendance as his reward. Some of those activities mentioned do involve being exposed to high levels of noise at any one time which if left unchecked, could lead to permanent hearing loss many years down the road. With Christmas coming up in slightly more than a month, why not give dad the protection he needs with the NoiseBuster Active Noise-Canceling Hearing Protector?

  • A Firewall That Will Pay YOU If You Can Hack It!

    firegatefirewall.jpg

Back in the days, having a firewall was a decent option if you wanted to secure your network against incoming attacks from the outside, but these days not just any firewall will do. Wiresoft, being a leading provider of affordable, high performance network security products for small and medium-sized businesses, has just unveiled Firegate, where it is touted to be the industry’s foremost “unbreakable” firewall delivering enterprise-level security plus disaster recovery without breaking the bank – perfect for such an economic climate. Just to get a better impression of how “steady” and reliable it is, the Firegate’s core technology platform has never been penetrated in either laboratory or market conditions to date. In order to underline its robustness and security, Wiresoft has issued a challenge, offering up to $24,000 in prize money to anyone who can hack Firegate within 24 hours. Dubbed the “Hack Us If You Can” challenge, it will be open to all from November 16 onwards, and you can check out the rules of the game here. Guess there will be plenty of coffee being passed around by a group of ethical hackers as they vie for 24 grand, no small sum even by today’s standards as that can get the winner a brand new ride or a super souped up gaming rig with more than enough cash to spare. Firegate is a unified threat management network security product, where a solitary platform will help protect companies against all network security threats. It offers firewall, individually configurable spamwall, unlimited VPN support, content filtering and anti-virus protection, where it has been included in a single price point without any hidden charges or add-ons. Any takers?
