  • CGMS Results and Endo Visit

Ok, before I start, let me just say that my head is still spinning over this visit.

As many of you know, I had a 96 hr CGMS done. The sensor results showed an average of 116. The meter readings (4 readings per day) showed an average of 145. My endo said that based on these findings, we would not be making any changes to my basal rates or boluses at this time.

One thing that we found intriguing is that my A1C level never corresponds with my meter averages. His only answer to this is that my red blood cells are living longer than the 90 days. He has an order for a fructosamine test in 2 months. Have any of you ever heard of red blood cells living longer than 90 days?

Thanks for listening and baring with me on this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, one other thing. He almost had a dying duck fit (Southern talk there, lol) because overnight on one of the nights, my bg stayed steady at 80 for 6 hrs. He thought that was too low for an overnight reading. Huh?!?!?!

  • Sets and Expiration Dates

If a set has passed it’s expiration date, does that mean it is unusable?? The DE at my Endo’s office gave me some Cleo 90’s that the Smith’s Rep left some time ago. One box (3 sets) has an expiration date of 09/2009. Would it be safe to use these? Would you use them? I use IV3000 adhesives with my sets.
  • CGMS Insertion

I got my 96 hr CGMS insertion today. It’s a MM CGMS unit. Wow, this thing is so different from the one I had in ’08. The DE told me that they had made some major improvements in them. I now have a new meter to add to my collection. I will be keeping the Ultra Link that she gave me today. Also, she hooked me up with some Cleo 90 sets that they had.
  • CGMS and BCBS/NC

A few years back, my Endo did a 3 day CGMS run on me. BCBS/NC refused to pay for it stating that it was experimental and therefore not medically necessary:eek: . I was livid but paid the entire $180 out of pocket to my Endo. Well, he’s wanting to do another one (this time for 4 days). My endo’s office ran it through BCBS, expecting the claim to be denied. Well, they agreed to cover it this time. I guess they are finally realizing that it is not experimental and that my endo wouldn’t be doing it if it were not necessary to my care.
  • Snow…….

SLEET, RAIN………yeah, we are getting it all. And to top it off, I am supposed to be at work at 3:30 (EST) and all they said was to call back before I’m supposed to be there to see if we are still open. The idiots opened up today !!!!!!!!!! Guess that all mighty $$$$ means so much to them.:(
  • Thigh Sites

For those who use thigh sites, do you prefer the top of the thigh, outer thigh, or inner thigh? Which works best, in your opinion?

This may have been posted before (possibly by me, lol) but I can’t find it. Sorry.

  • Eye Appt Today

Had my yearly eye exam today. Optho says that my vision is still the same, background/non-proliferative retinopathy has not gotten worse, pressure was up but he’s not worried. He says that the nerves look wonderful.

All in all, a good visit. So much better than my last endo visit. LOL.
