  • A Bit Freaked Out

    Hello:

Another newbie here. I was diagnosed just before Christmas. Had been feeling run down for a long time, but with no family history of diabetes, and in fairly good shape, 5’9" 175lbs, 61, I had no clue.

When the doc took a BG reading and it was 363, his jaw dropped, and eyes opened wide: heck, I thought I was going to drop dead right in front of him.

Went back a week later, found out my A1C was 11.5. He put me on Glipizide, and Metformin 500MG. He has since taken me off the the Glipizide, and replaced it with Januvia 50mg , having me do two readings a day. My 30 day average is 140. This morning it was 123.

After reading a lot of the information here, and seeing that people get bummed if their readings are over 120, I’m concerned that I’m not where I should be at this point. We already eat a good diet here: we hardly had to make any changes. Lots of fruit and veggies and whole grains, and little fat, and exercise daily.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.
