  • Iran: Green Tune to Support Protest Movement

The Green Movement (Iranian opposition) uses different ways to protest against the Iranian regime. Some Iranian bloggers proposed that people change their mobile tone into ‘Ey Iran' song, a famous and popular anthem in Iran to show their solidarity with the protest movement. Here is one part of the song:

    Oh Iran, oh bejeweled land
Oh, your soil is the well spring of the arts
Far from you may the thoughts of evil be
May you remain lasting and eternal
Oh enemy, if you are of stone, I am of iron
May my life be sacrificed for the pure soil of my motherland
Since your love became my calling
My thoughts are never far from you
In your cause, when do our lives have value?

    Rezza view writes [fa]:

Solidarity and resistance have been the secret of our victory so far. Ey iran oh bejeweled land is a beautiful song that we all remember. Let's choose the tune of this song for our mobiles. In schools, offices, streets and universities we will hear this music again and again and we will be more persistent to continue our goal: free Iran.

Fermesk also writes [fa] that the next step of the Green Movement is to encourage people to change the ring tones of their mobile phones into the Ey Iran song.

Harfehesaby notes [fa] at the end of Iran-Iraq war, the Iranian radio started to broadcast this song, which motivated many people to go to the front and fight. The blogger says he hopes Iran would be free from its invaders on 22 Bahman (11 February), the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

Several bloggers make the song available in their blogs:

  • Iran: Iranians commemorate Neda’s birthday

neda1Many people inside and outside Iran commemorated Neda Agha Soltan's 27th birthday. Unfortunately, Neda was not there to party and instead of receiving gifts, she was shot dead by Basij militia on June 20, 2009, during a protest of thousands against the Iranian presidential election results that declared Mahmoud Ahmadinejad president. Her death was captured on video by bystanders and uploaded to the Internet. She died with her eyes wide open, and her last moments transcended citizen media to mainstream media, reaching millions of people.

Neda, without any doubt, became a symbol for the protesters, who showed their respect to her once more on Saturday.

Nedaye Mihan Sabz (which translates to Neda's Green Homeland) writes [fa] that “green people (in reference to protesters against the Iranian regime) and Neda's family was present by Neda's tomb. They lit candles and decorated her grave with her photographs. Security forces were present.”

Several Iranian blogs also published a photograph of Neda's parents.

Balatariny says [fa] Neda died with her eyes wide open and Iranians should not live with their eyes wide shut.

Bipanahm writes [fa] that many people, including human rights activists and mourning mothers, marked Neda's birthday. He said that security forces at first prevented people from filming the event but then retreated after protests from those present.

Azarmehr writes that Iranians remembered Neda in front of Press TV's (the Islamic Republic's television channel) offices in London.

    He notes:

Press TV's constant lies about Neda to tarnish her image became a focus point for those who wanted to mark this day in London. Iranian expats as well as non-Iranians gathered outside Press TV offices in Hanger Lane to commemorate Neda and at the same time perhaps jolt the conscience of those who are still working for this propaganda arm of the messianic junta in Iran.

He also posts the following photograph from the gathering:
