SPRINGFIELD — A bill to address the growing problem of hunger in
Illinois sponsored by State Senator Don Harmon (
D-Oak
Park) was heard in the Human Services Committee Tuesday.
Senate bill 3158 establishes a Commission to End Hunger under the Department of Human Services toward the goal of addressing rising hunger in
Illinois. An amendment explicitly states that DHS and the State of
Illinois will not incur any costs because meeting coordination, reports, and other duties will be completed by a food bank representative who will serve as co-chair of the Commission.
