  • Meeting about pump tomorrow.

Hello. I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the pump. I’m on the fence between the Ping and the Minimed. What sort of questions should I be asking the nurse?

I have a very hairy belly. Will I have to shave/wax before applying the infusion set?

Any other Canadians have real $$ figures for real life?

How much extra (total and per month) is the CGMS?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

  • Need help figuring out my severe low

    Here are the facts:
    -I’m an adult onset type 1 (1.5), 39 year old male 5’10", 200lbs
-I take 18U Lantus at bedtime and around a 1:6 Humalog with meals

The day of the hypo episode:
-Breakfast at 0555 of bacon on 2 English muffins for 54g carbs – 7.5U Humalog to cover – bgl was 7.5mmol before and 6.5mmol 4hrs after. Light activity at work before lunch.

-Lunch at 1130 – bgl was 4.3mmol before lunch so I had 2 glucose tabs for 8g of carbs to offset an impending low. Lunch was 2 turkey salad sandwiches on flax for 68g carbs which I covered with 9U Humalog for a 1:7.55 ratio. Bgl was 10.3mmol 3hrs after lunch. Little to no activity at work in the afternoon.

-Supper at 1640 – bgl was 5.2mmol before – I had a chicken sandwich on flax (34g), can of mushroom soup (26g), 11oz veggie juice (11g) and an ice cream bar (20g)-Total 91g carbs. I took 13U for a 1:7 ratio. About 30 minutes play with my puppy right after supper. Light activity, just throwing a ball.

-I started feeling funny 1745hrs and tested at 2.7mmol – treated immediately with 7 glucose tabs and a glass of milk for about 38g carbs – 1755hrs. I was unconscious with seizures and my family had to call 911 for the cavalry. Bgl up to 4.9mmol at 1820hrs.

Where did I go wrong?
