  • A Look at Some Wicked iPhone Jailbreak Apps and Extensions

Pretty packed article about various apps you can use on your iPhone, post-jailbreak. Very cool stuff!

  • Cakespy: Cadbury Creme Eggs Benedict | Serious Eats : Recipes

Gah, this sounds totally gross… Well, it doesn’t help that I’m not a fan of Cadbury Creme Eggs. However, this is just way too much sweetness in one dish…so much for subtlety.

  • Rock Out with PixieTea and Her Amazing iPhone Band [VIDEO]

I’m continually surprised at the creativity inspired by iPhone apps, whether it’s artist sketches done in the Brushes app that end up on the cover of The New Yorker, or this great, poppy song composed of instrumentals created with various iPhone music apps.

  • “God Save the Villain!” – T-shirt by Enkel Dika

Is it just me, or does this Threadless t-shirt design look creepier than the actual Joker from Dark Knight??

  • Strobe Light Hard Drive Clock Hack

This hard drive clock, called Strobeshnik, is one of the wildest hacks we’ve come across in recent memory. As you can see above, the modder has punched out the numbers 0-9 in the hard drive platter itself. Behind the hard drive platter is a series of diffused LED lights that are hooked up to a circuit board. As the hard drive spins around, the lights behind it strobe at precise timings so that they appear to light up just a single digit each- like a clock. See the picture below:

Someone wanna buy these for me? :) They’d go great with the Mac icon magnets I got from my brother a few Xmases ago…

  • GAH!

Saw this when I was searching Google Maps for restaurants nearby (trying to figure out what to have for lunch)…

Ummm, yeah.  Google needs better moderating on business photos, obviously.  Well, so does Urbanspoon. :P

  • Message In My Handwriting

    Hey, Kids.

I’m trying out this new version of Use Your Handwriting [Editor’s note: Use Your Handwriting Gold]. It has this fun new “rainbow” theme, as you can see. The UI is still a bit wonky compared to FastFinga, but I have to admit this rainbow theme is cute. :)

P.S. Use Your Handwriting picked the e-mail subject line. I’m e- mailing it directly from the app to Posterous.

  • Plated up (w/rice, natch)

Am in the middle of eating the delicious pork on a stick. Turned out great! I added some extra glaze of brown sugar, cayenne, and garlic powder, just in case the marinade they used wasn’t sweet/spicy enough. I don’t know if my glaze really helped, but the end results are quite awesome. Can’t wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow. :D

  • This better be good…

Bought a pack of frozen “spicy pork on a stick” from what looked to be a Filipino frozen food section at Super H Mart (a Korean grocery store where we regularly buy salmon sashimi from). Just thawed it and put the skewers in the oven. They better taste as good as they smell! (Yes, I’m hungry.)

  • Hmph.

They must’ve seen that our house officially went on the market 2 days ago. :P

Oh for crying out loud, why must iPhone backups take SO DAMN LONG?  My iPhone is about half full of content according to iTunes, yet it is taking *forever* to back up this measly ~7.5GB of stuff.  Has there been any real explanation about why iPhone backups take so long?  I can't imagine what the technical reason for these lengthy backups could be.  Sure, I could cancel a backup by clicking on the "x" button in the iTunes status window, but a) a quick glance at an old discussion forum thread implies that canceling a backup could corrupt a current backup (not sure how valid that is), and b) the only real times that I connect my iPhone to my computer and initiate a backup is because I'm either upgrading the firmware or jailbreaking, times during which one should be vigilant about creating a backup.  In this case, I wanted to jailbreak my phone for the several-th time, but the backup is killing my momentum.  And as I posted earlier on Google Buzz, I usually end up getting a hankering to do the jailbreak sometime late at night, so slowing the process down with an unfathomably-long backup is not desirable. :P

I guess I'll have to let the backup happen overnight and continue in the morning.  Lamesauce.

  • Limited Edition M&Ms Coconut – Candy Blog

After hearing about them last summer, I kept my eye out for them, but never found any. Then a week or two ago I saw some at the register in Walmart and picked up a couple bags. I forgot about them until now. :) They’re quite tasty! I’ve been moving away from American candy bars and chocolates because I don’t like how sickly sweet the milk *and* dark chocolate products are (Hershey’s Special Dark used to be my favorite, but now not so much). Japanese chocolates are pretty good; even most of their milk chocolate doesn’t taste as toothachingly-sweet as most American chocolates. I’m a dark chocolate fiend, so I do prefer my chocolate on the less sweet side.

Anyway, these M&Ms are great. I thought I’d have to go back to Walmart and stock up, but apparently the coconut M&Ms have become a regular product offering, so try a bag if you can. If you like candy bars like the UK Bounty, or American Mounds/Almond Joy bars, you’ll like these M&Ms.
