I’m planning to buy a new car which will be self driven by me for work everyday. The travelling would be about 30 KM per day and since I’m planning to keep the car for a longer period of time I will go for a Diesel variant and I have no doubt in that.

Here are my concerns:

(1) Budget not more than 5-6 L Rupees (On Road Price)

(2) Handling should be easy as this is the first time I will own a car (I just know to drive). Did my driving licence in 2001. Since then never drove a car.

(3) Need decent rear knee space

(4) Good manueverability in city traffic

(5) Good FE (would expect around 18-22 KMPL on City / Highways)

(6) Low maintenence (Willing to spend not more than 10K Rupees Per year)

(7) Good for long trips (Would require travel between Chennai – Sivakasi (Wifey’s native))

(8) Decent boot space

(9) Airbags + ABS is a must

(10) Child lock is a must (I have a naughty daughter)

I have shortlisted the following machines (in the order of my liking):

(1) Grande Punto

(2) VW Polo

(3) Ford Figo

I’m sure that with the valuable suggestions from you all, I would have a good decision to make.
