  • A new NIMBY poll to have a little bit fun with

Here’s another NIMBY poll that needs some SSC influence so please vote YES to the poll in this news article!

Canberra Times’ heavily loaded NIMBY poll

It’s for a great building that Canberra (capital city of Australia) desperately needs to help bring life back into the centre of the city. The Canberra Times article has a heavy NIMBY bias and contrary to the article this site IS NOT heritage unless you call a dirt carpark heritage. The lowrise nextdoor is the Diamant Hotel and it is heritage listed and will be protected, and rightly so.

Here’s the SSC thread on the building –

The building in question is the render on the right below, ie, the 17 storey NewActon Nishi. It will have a very high green star rating if built.

Also from the image above, NewActon East has already been completed and The Apartments/NewActon South is under construction and has topped out.

The first 3D TV sets are not set to hit stores until midyear but the porn industry is already shooting and selling immersive 3D films.

Adult movie makers are known for being technology pioneers, having helped drive the adoption of previous new technologies such as VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, the internet and high-definition.

BadGirls in 3D, an exhibitor at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, is so early with its adoption of 3D that it is selling a $US3999 ($4320) kit that includes a Mitsubishi 60-inch 3DTV, two pairs of 3D glasses and a tiny PC that is used to stream the 3D films from the web.

Several hours of porn are shot using 3D cameras and uploaded to the site every week. It can be accessed for $US19.95 a month.

Producer Lance Johnson said in an interview he would start selling stand-alone 3D porn discs later this year once 3D TVs start to hit the market.

At the Consumer Electronics Show, which runs over the same dates as the adult expo, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, LG and Panasonic unveiled a slew of 3D-capable televisions, Blu-ray players and home theatre systems.

Samsung and Sony said they planned to have models on the Australian market midyear, to coincide with the football World Cup, which will be shot in 3D.

“We want to bring this technology into the home and we will do this via a hardware ‘bundle’ that will work with streaming 3D porn,” Johnson said.

“You can log onto to [our website] to purchase the complete hardware package and subscribe. From there, simply turn on your PC, log on and put on the active 3D glasses.”

Movie studios are also gearing up to release 3D films on Blu-ray discs about the same time, including both films shot in 3D, such as Avatar, and 2D films remastered in 3D such as Sony’s Jimi Hendrix discs.

In the US, Fox Sports, Discovery and other broadcasters have announced new 3D channels and plan to air live action sports and other content on them.

3D has been a runaway hit in cinemas around the world, with the latest release, Avatar, grossing more than $US1.34 billion worldwide since its release on December 18.

Johnson noted that an early 3D porn film based on old technology, which aired in some cinemas in 1969, grossed what was then an astonishing $US27 million.

“I think it’s so cool,” said Breanne Benson, 25, who appeared in two of Johnson’s 3D porn films.

“It [3D] is a little bit nerve racking … but no one’s ever done 3D porn before so I’m very excited.”

  • World’s first sex robot ready to “service”

World’s first sex robot Roxxxy unveiled

Roxxxy the sex robot had a cuming-out party Saturday in Sin City.

In what is billed as a world first, a life-size robotic girlfriend complete with artificial intelligence and flesh-like synthetic skin was introduced to adoring fans at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas.

"She can’t vacuum, she can’t cook but she can do almost anything else if you know what I mean," TrueCompanion’s Douglas Hines said while introducing AFP to Roxxxy.

"She’s a companion. She has a personality. She hears you. She listens to you. She speaks. She feels your touch. She goes to sleep. We are trying to replicate a personality of a person."

Roxxxy stands 170cm tall, weighs 54.43kg, "has a full C cup and is ready for action," according to Hines, who was an artificial intelligence engineer at Bell Labs before starting TrueCompanion.

The anatomically-correct robot has an articulated skeleton that can move like a person but can’t walk or independently move its limbs.

Robotic movement is built into "the three inputs" and a mechanical heart that powers a liquid cooling system.

Roxxxy comes with five personalities. Wild Wendy is outgoing and adventurous, while Frigid Farrah is reserved and shy.

There is a young naive personality along with a Mature Martha that Hines described as having a "matriarchal kind of caring". S & M Susan is geared for more adventurous types.

Aspiring partners can customise Roxxxy features, including race, hair colour and breast size. A male sex robot named Rocky is in development.

People ordering the robots online at www.truecompanion.com detail their tastes and interests much like online dating sites but here, the information is used to get the mechanical girlfriend in sync with her mate.

"She knows exactly what you like," Hines said of Roxxxy, noting that Rocky will also come with personalities.

"If you like Porsches, she likes Porsches. If you like soccer, she likes soccer."

Roxxxy will chat with her flesh-and-blood mate, and touching her elicits comments varying according to personalities.

She is wirelessly linked to the internet for software updates, technical support and to send her man email messages.

People can customise "true companion" personalities and then share the programs with others online on the company’s website, according to Hines.

"Just think about wife or girlfriend swapping without actually giving the person to someone else," Hines said. "You can share the personality online."

Inspiration for the sex robot sprang from the September 11, 2001 attacks, when planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon and an empty field in Pennsylvania.

"I had a friend who passed away in 9/11," Hines said. "I promised myself I would create a program to store his personality, and that became the foundation for Roxxxy True Companion."

Hines sees his creation as not only a recreational innovation but as an outlet for the shy, people with sexual dysfunction, and those who want to experiment without risk.

Roxxxy versions are priced from $US7,000 ($A7,634) to $US9,000 ($A9,815), depending on features. The sex robot is available in Europe and the United States and will eventually be available globally, according to Hines.
