• Opel Astra Club – is it worthwhile now?

Hi guys,

I have a good offer from a friend of mine and hence the confusion.

The discussion is around an Opel Astra Club at sub 1L price. Its run about 50,000+ kms and is maintained very well. i do not have a car and this would be my city+highway driving car.

The confusion is that even though it comes loaded with goodies, is it a worthwhile buy in todays date? I was planning to go for a 1.6 GTX and have been on the lookout for a good GTX for about a month now.

the comparision:

GTX:
* more powerful
* Costlier
* More fun to drive
* smaller car so more comfortable in the city
* same mileage
* lesser issue of spare parts of the 2

Astra:
* Astra club, so is fully loaded
* ABS, safety bags, etc etc etc etc
* well maintained and much more comfortable
* problems with spare parts
* costlier spare parts

Which car should i go for? help guys?

• Used driver’s car within 2 lakhs?

Hi guys,
This is first official post in Tbhp other than the introduction post.
I am trying to help a friend of mine as well as trying to understand the used market well to buy a new car soon (maybe in the next 6 months). My friend wants to pick up a car with the following limitations

• ·Needs to be Petrol – to ensure that he does not need to have high maintenance
• ·Should be powerful and fun to drive
• ·Monthly usage would be about 500kms
• ·Bachelor so not much use of the back seat or a huge boot
• ·Would be used for highway driving as well once in a month
• ·F.E is not that important, though it’s a consideration as well
• ·Handling and safety would be more important

Based on the above limitations, I suggested him to go for a Palio 1.6 GTX (thanks for the various reviews in Tbhp). I did put across a disclaimer that it would be a tough find if you do get one. He has been searching ever since (1 month now) and hasn’t been able to find any decent car. He did come across a Palio 1.6 which was a LPG version which he is not too sure about.
Now for the questions, which I need assistance with

1. Is my suggestion correct? What other cars would you recommend
2. How worthwhile is it to pick up a LPG Palio? Any change in performance since Petrol has not been used for a while.
3. In addition to the other checks mentioned in “buying a car” section, is there anything else that he should be checking in the car (Palio specific check)?
4. Since he is buying from a different state, what charges would he have to incur other than the registration charges.
• Finally made it!

Hi Fellow Bhpians, this is Ankur from Bangalore. I have been trying to become a membership for a while now but no rewards. But as most of you, I kept trying and finally made it clap:. Oh god, does it feel good to be here.
Read through all the reading material, since I am damn scared of the moderators. You never know where you break the rules. I am pretty sure most of think the same way, but in a way it’s good for the forum.

I am marketing professional and yet to save up big time for a decent car. I currently drive a Maruti 800 and love it to the core. Even though is an old car, it’s amazing for the simple reason that its mine. That’s the simplest reason I can give to people who ask me why is it a Maruti 800, when I can possibly pick up an Esteem or a Palio or any other budget car like Santro. Love driving it around the city, feels zippy and returns a decent mileage as well. (I start rumbling again)

Heard about Tbhp from the Net. Most of the time when I would search for questions or car comparisons, I would land up in Tbhp most of the time. I am a very confused personality when it comes to cars (in the sense my choice of cars keeps varying). For example, a while back I loved the Punto, the Linea, and then came the Manza and then the Beat currently. The favorites keep changing ever so often.

I would be asking a lot of questions in the which car section ever so often due to my confusion in choosing a car. Hope the fellow Bhpians don’t mind.

I am a hobbyist photographer armed with a Canon 30D and a set of flashes and lens. The combination of driving and photography is one which fills my desires for a while but India seems like a very unsafe place to just take off by myself. Hopefully, other Bhpians go for shoots where I can tag along.

Already written too much, will post more on “Which car” section soon. Till then, thanks for taking me into your group. Hope I can contribute in some way or the other.
