Twenty-one years ago, in 1989, I wrote what many have called the first book for a general audience on global warming. One of the more interesting reviews came from the Wall Street Journal. It was a mixed and judicious appraisal. “The subject,” the reviewer said, “is important, the notion is arresting, and Mr. McKibben argues convincingly.” And that was not an outlier: around the same time, the first President Bush announced that he planned to “fight the greenhouse effect with the White House effect.”

I doubt that’s what the Journal will say about my next book when it comes out in a few weeks, and I know that no GOP presidential contender would now dream of acknowledging that human beings are warming the planet. Sarah Palin is currently calling climate…

A parish priest has been sacked amid claims he offered sex for sale over the internet.

Samuel Martin, 27, posed in his underpants in an advert offering €120-an- hour services for women and couples, reports say. The revelations have caused a scandal in Catholic Spain, after pictures of Martin in his grey briefs were published in newspapers.

The Spaniard also allegedly stole €17,000 from Church donations and spent it on phone sex lines and internet porn. In the advert, which has since been removed, Martin, calling himself Hector, wrote: “Heterosexual man for women and couples. Real photos. Well hung (15cm) for your pleasure and happiness.

“I am open to everything except sadism. Hotels and private addresses. 24 hours. You won’t regret it, I will give you pleasure…

The Trend Forecaster on The Turkish Press

Gerald Celente , a well-known trend forecaster who is called by many a modern-day Nostradamus, has said he believes a bright future awaits Turkey thanks to the country’s proven ability to live through the worst of crises largely owing to the fact that it has learnt from past experiences.

While he predicted that world markets would likely suffer a giant collapse this year, Celente said countries such as Turkey, which has the ability to apply past experiences to the present, will manage to overcome difficulties relatively earlier.

Speaking to Sunday’s Zaman last week, he drew connections to Turkey’s ability to combine the opportunities of its past with the opportunities of the present day, indicating confidence that the country obviously has the potential to play a prominent role in the future of the world by relying on this capability.

A few weeks ago, Frontline premiered a documentary called “Digital Nation”. In one segment, the vice-principle of Intermediate School 339, Bronx, NY, Dan Ackerman, demonstrates how he “remotely monitors” the students’ laptops for “inappropriate use”. (his demonstration begins at 4:36)




He says “They don’t even realize we are watching,” “I always like to mess with them and take a picture,” and “9 times out of 10, THEY DUCK OUT OF THE WAY.”

He says the students “use it like it’s a mirror” and he watches. He says 6th and 7th graders have their cameras activated. It looks like the same software used by the Pennsylvania school that is being investigated for covertly spying on students through their webcams.

The shocking thing about this is that the privacy concerns were not even mentioned in the Frontline documentary!

LINO LAKES, Minn. – Ever since his 1996 Toyota Camry shot up an interstate ramp, plowing into the back of an Oldsmobile in a horrific crash that killed three people, Koua Fong Lee insisted he had done everything he could to stop the car.

A jury didn’t believe him, and a judge sentenced him to eight years in prison. But now, new revelations of safety problems with Toyotas have Lee pressing to get his case reopened and his freedom restored. Relatives of the victims — who condemned Lee at his sentencing three years ago — now believe he is innocent and are planning to sue Toyota. The prosecutor who sent Lee to prison said he thinks the case merits another look.

It was 68 years ago this month- In the dark morning hours of February 25, 1942, less than three months after Pearl Harbor, a million people in Southern California witnessed first hand, the “Battle of Los Angeles”.

This was not a drill, nor a practice for war.  A very large unknown aerial object appeared over Los Angeles.  At the time, it was feared that the Japanese were bringing the war to our western shores.

The next morning, the Los Angeles Examiner’s headlines read: “Air Battle Rages over Los Angeles,” followed (in smaller type) by “One Plane Reported Downed on Vermont Avenue by Gunfire”.

Glenn Beck has failed to respond to a firestorm of reaction to his comments made during a February 21st interview with USA Weekend magazine in which he completely reversed his position on climate change by revealing that he believed in man-made global warming.

Documents reveal that burying detainees alive was sought as an interrogation method by the Bush’s torture psychologists, but rejected by the Department of Justice “in the rush to approve waterboarding”:

CIA’s torturers asked DOJ to let them use mock burials. But DOJ said no.

PDF page 42 of the OPR Report (searchable copy here) includes a list of the torture techniques that Mitchell and Jessen recommended be used with Abu Zubaydah. Whereas the Bybee Two Techniques memo approves ten techniques, Mitchell and Jessen recommended twelve. In other words, Mitchell and Jessen asked for two techniques to be approved that did not get specific approval.

The twelfth technique–which Mitchell and Jessen wanted approved but which Yoo excluded because of the rush to approve waterboarding–is mock burial.

I took a ride up to Dave’s house for a sky watch last night, and we caught some pretty good stuff. I enhanced the footage like this for the first time to see ow it will come out. Dave, and I have been seeing, and filming these unknown objects since April 2008 here in Englewood, and Venice Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. We started the watch at 6:40pm and ended at 8:10. At 1:44 second in you can see two of them flying together for one min and there is about 6 total throughout the video.

Lord Martin Rees, president of the Royal Society and astronomer to the Queen, said the existence of extra terrestrial life may be beyond human understanding.

He made the remarks shortly after hosting the national science academy’s first conference on the possibility of alien life.

“They could be staring us in the face and we just don’t recognise them. The problem is that we’re looking for something very much like us, assuming that they at least have something like the same mathematics and technology,” he said.
