  • Should I see a nephrologist?

I’m a worrier by nature, and just recently I started thinking about perhaps seeing a nephrologist to have a complete evaluation of my kidneys.

Both my mother and her mother died of renal failure at young ages (mom was 54, grandma 57). They were both T2 diabetics, mom was very non-compliant, I don’t know about grandma, she died when just before I was 2.

So I started thinking about my risk for renal disease, both family history wise and diabetes wise.

I have regular f/u with my internist with blood work and urine tests, none of which show any kidney damage….but at times I worry.

If you were me, would you see a nephrologist just because…or would you wait until there’s a real reason to?

  • Guess who’s talking to Dave?

Me…Dave arrived in Knoxville and i’m talking with him now. He has the most charming accent….a cross between Hugh Grant and Liam Neeson!
  • unable to access my yahoo e-mail

In the last couple of days, i’ve been unable to get into my personal e-mail account at work. I get a "program not responding" message and then a "hung-app" message. I have run the antivirus check and my computer has no viruses detected. I have another yahoo account I use and it’s okay.

What can I do to get into my account? It lets me put in the login and password, actually pulls up the e-mail screen showing "X" number of messages, but it never shows me the actual messages.

BTW, I can get into this account on my laptop at home.

  • Your most memorable Christmas gift

What was it? It can be recent, or from your childhood. Expensive or handmade.

For me, the Christmas after my mom died, my cousin made me a "memory basket." It was made of cloth, and put together like a rag-rug. It was made of mismatched, odd colors, not really that pretty. But on closer inspection, I realized she had taken scraps of material that she had gotten from my mom who sewed and kept all the extra material. There was one piece that my mom used to make curtains in our kitchen, one piece was from material mom used to make matching dresses for her, my sister and myself many years ago, one was from my dad’s old pj’s and many more fabrics that held special memories…what a gift she’d given me! Memories of my childhood that I could touch. It’s one of the most meaningful gifts I ever received.

Also, in 1968, I received a baby sister for Christmas…actually a few days before, but it was a cool gift for a 4 year old.

Anyone else care to share a memory?
