At what point does a T2 need to go on insulin? Does it get to the point that just Metformin, and in my case Byetta, just aren’t enough anymore? Is it inevitable that T2’s will eventually go to insulin?

Do you ever splurge?
Today I went to the mall with my two grandchildren, ages 3 and 17 months, and my daughter….their mother. We shopped a little, then stopped at a playground in the mall to let the kids play. Aftewards, we passed a cookie shop that sell these wonderful, thick, chocolate brownies with the yummiest thick chocolate icing that you have ever seen!
I have been doing so good through the holidays but all of the sudden, I HAD to have one of those brownies. I have turned down everything you can imagine during the holidays……pies, cakes, fudge (my favorite),cookies, EVERYTHING! For some reason, I just had to have a brownie! So, I bought each of us a brownie, and guess what? It was wonderful! I ate it and I loved it!! Later? Well, my BG spiked to 185 and I felt awful. I wanted to sleep the rest of the afternoon and I did take a long nap. It’s later in the evening now and my BG has dropped back down to normal. Was it worth it? I have to say YES it was. I know this isn’t good for me, and I don’t plan to do this again, and I’m sure not going to make a habit of it, but I think ever now and then it doesn’t hurt to have a little splurge. What do you guy think? -
How do I know my meter is correct?
I recently obtained a new meter, and the readings are 20 points lower than my other meter. The new one I got is an Accu Check Plus and the old one is a True Trak. I would think that the Accu CHeck Plus would be more accurate. When I did the test with the sample, it was within the range it was suppose to be, therefore, I presume it would be accurate. My True Trak has a chip you put in your meter to see if it is working properly, and according to that , it is! When I go see my doctor next month, I will compare to his office meter, but until then, does anyone know how I can make sure my new meter is right? I like the lower numbers, but am I just kidding myself?
