ASUS created much buzz with the announcement of its FonePad smartphone/tablet hybrid, but has created tons of mystery about its launch date and pricing for prospective customers since then. Fortunately, it has finally come out and given us all the launch details we have been eagerly waiting for. The manufacturer has confirmed the FonePad will come in at £179.99 (about $276 USD). Additionally, the device will be available for pre-order at retailers like Carphone Warehouse, Amazon and Sainsbury’s from April 12, with stock due to arrive on April 26.

We’ll give more information as we hear anything.

Google’s Play Music service has been one heck of a godsend to plenty of Android folk out there, but unfortunately— people in parts of Europe and the southern hemisphere haven’t been able to get in on the awesome service… until now. The awesome service has been launched in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Portugal. This means that many users in those countries will finally have the ability to shop and store up to 20,000 songs in Google’s library. Sweet, right?

Of course there are still many countries still without access to Play Music, but hey— access to the service one country at a time will work out for now.

If you happen to extensively travel abroad and are an AT&T customer, then you’re probably going to be excited at this tidbit of news. Boingo and AT&T have announced that it has gone into a special global roaming agreement with one another, allowing AT&T customers to access wireless hotspots at locations worldwide for free. It’s pretty straightforward too: all customers need to do is simply use the AT&T WiFi International App in order to use Boingo’s global network. Also part of the agreement, Boingo customers who happen to travel into in the United States will also be able to access AT&T WiFi hotspots throughout the US.

One small thing to note is in order to use AT&T’s WiFi International App, AT&T customers will need to ensure that they already have the appropriate 300MB or 800MB AT&T Data Global Add-On package as part of their mobile plan. Once that’s done, customers will be able to access up to a gig of Boingo service. Sweet.

AT&T Customers Have Access to Boingo’s Global Wi-Fi Hotspots in Major International Airports

Travelers abroad can now gain access, via the AT&T Wi-Fi International App, to Boingo’s global network of Wi-Fi hotspots managed and operated by Boingo’s subsidiary, Concourse Communications Group.  The AT&T Wi-Fi International App lets AT&T customers on applicable data global packages access up to 1GB of Wi-Fi each month at no additional charge.*

T-Mobile’s newest wireless plans have certainly gone without notice from its competitors, so it’s expected that we’ll see an onslaught of ads highlighting that there are more than a few alternatives out there for folks to choose from. In addition to its incredibly inexpensive monthly plans, Virgin Mobile is trying to entice customers by offering a sweet $100 credit to any existing T-Mobile customer that wants to switch services. All that’s needed? T-Mobile customers will just need to bring their phone number over to Virgin Mobile in order to be eligible— that’s it.

Naturally T-Mobile’s mobile plans will offer the most bang for the buck in the long run for most folks (in terms of overall value), but at least Virgin Mobile is giving consumers yet another chance to save an extra dollar or two.

We already know that Google’s revamped all-in-one chat service is very much real and definitely on the way, but we finally have a concrete idea of how it will look when it is unveiled to the masses, courtesy of some leaked screenshots obtained by the gang at techradar. As you can see in these screenshots, the new version of Google Chat service will feature a complete revamped to its UI by including a more threaded messaging style and the use of newer graphics which include the use of new emoticons to be used by both Babel chat and a Hangout within Google+. Oh and Google seems to be intent on getting feedback as quickly as possible by including a “What do you think about Babel in Gmail?” notification when you over over the Feedback button.

Unfortunately, there are no additional details to confirm anything else (such as what Google is doing with WhatsApp) for now, though all indications point to the arrival of Babel sooner than we think.

No… there’s no need to pinch yourselves because it’s true— Samsung has taken the wraps off of yet another addition to its Galaxy family. This new toy— called the Galaxy Win— is a lower-end mid-range device that comes with a 4.7-inch WVGA LCD TFT display with a 800 x 480 resolution, a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU inside, 1GB of RAM, a 5MP camera, a 2,000mAh battery and Android 4.1. Additionally, there’s no LTE on-board, but at least there’s HSPA+ support and full dual-SIM capabilities.

No word yet on when the device will hit store shelves or which carriers will feature the device just yet, but expect Sammy to give the Galaxy Win’s cost and availability sooner than later.

Move over iPad Mini, Nexus 7 and Galaxy Note 8.0— Acer is bringing a new player to the mini tablet arena. A mysterious Acer Iconia A1-810 has been revealed to the general public and looks to have the standard goodies including a 1.2GHz MediaTek dual-core chip, 7.9-inch IPS display with a 1,024 x 768 resolution + 1GB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera + a VGA front-facer, a 3,250 mAh battery and 16GB of on-board memory. Sure the competition may have some better specs inside, but at least the device will ship with Android 4.2 out of the gates.

As of now, it appears that French retailer Rue Du Commerce is the only place that is officially listing the device available for order at this point, though we’ll see if other countries and markets will get the device as well. It is expected the Iconia A1-810 will cost about €199 (about $259) and ship sometime in June.

Sure Facebook Home is going to be one heck of a game-changer for Android devices, but not only do we still need to wait a while for it to come out— Facebook Home is only going to be available for a handful of devices, at least for the initial launch. Fortunately, some enterprising folks went ahead and brought the awesome launcher to the masses. Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo’s details that using any Android device with a maximum resolution of 1,200 x 768, users will have the ability to use a pre-release version of the ROM by installing 3 special files.

Of course using the special build of the app doesn’t come without a few catches. The first is that since this is a pre-release version of Facebook Home, meaning the ROM is not exactly stable, is missing a feature or two and is a little bit on the slower side. The second catch is users will need to ensure that Facebook is completely uninstalled from their device prior to installing the ROM since the leaked files are re-signed and can’t just be installed over the top of an existing installation. This means that those of you with a device that has Facebook pre-installed will probably need to have Root access and remove the Facebook from your phone just to be on the safe side.

We certainly have a soft spot for the Samsung Galaxy Camera, but there are more than a few of you out there that loathed the fact it was a feature device for only a few wireless carriers. To that extent, Samsung has come out and confirmed it will release a WiFi-only version of the connected camera for those of us out here in the States. In case you’ve forgotten, the Galaxy Camera features a 1.4GHz quad-core chip, 1GB of RAM and most importantly, a decent 12MP camera complete with 21X optical zoom. The difference between the WiFi-only version and the cellular version: the WiFi-only version will run customers about $450, compared to $500 for the AT&T HSPA+ version and $550 for the Verizon variant. Hopefully with the loss of the cellular chip, we’ll see a reduction in the overall weight of the device.

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its two newest additions to the Galaxy family today by announcing the Galaxy Trend II and Galaxy Trend II Duos smartphones. Each device are on the fringe of being a low-end device featuring a 1.2GHz dual-core chip, 4-inch WVGA display, 3MP camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, microSD card slot and 1500mAh battery— all in a Jelly Bean package. There’s no word yet on how much the device will cost or when it will arrive in stores, but we suspect Samsung will have all those deets for us sooner than later.

Sure the world is certainly counting down to the awesome HTC One smartphone’s imminent release, but it appears the Chinese variant will be slightly different than the other variants. A new image and accompanying specs have surfaced regarding the 802w variant of the One smartphone that’s headed for Chinese mobile providers. The information highlights this variant of the device will come arrive with dual-SIM support and an expandable microSD-out slot. Additionally, the device will not feature the zero-gap aluminum build that makes the device so appealing– but rather another cheaper quality material instead (aka plastic).

Now while many of you may be upset at this notion that the Chinese variants will be slightly different, there are some potential theories for why this is. While China is by far and away the largest country in the world, many parts of the country are considered to be “emerging markets”—- meaning $600 premium devices are almost certainly inaccessible to folks living out in that market. With that in mind, HTC may be realizing that China is a key market to sell the device in, but must do so at a cost-effective price, so it reduced the on-board storage size and changed the build of the device— thus making it much more affordable and appealing to folks out in China.

As cool as it is seeing this device in its real form, those of us out in the States or Europe shouldn’t expect a similar variant to hit our shores anytime soon.

If you’re a Facebook fanatic, chances are that you’ve played Rovio’s hyper-addictive Angry Birds Friends at some point recently. As slick and cool as that spinoff of the game is, gamers have been limited to playing the game on a desktop computer as opposed to on our mobile devices. Fortunately Rovio realized that 60 million installs and a 15 million active user base must be tapped into just a wee bit further– and that’s why it used a Facebook event in Helsinki to announce a mobile version of its Angry Birds Friends game— which is inspired by the popular Supercell in-app store services to gain extra revenue.

Many of you are probably wondering why it took so long for Rovio to finally come out with a mobile version of the game, right? Well it’s quite simple really: up until recently, Rovio has been reluctant to monopolize revenues and sources of income in areas like paid apps, but with the paid apps business and merchandising taking off, Rovio is taking a chance by being open with free creative spinoffs of its games like Angry Birds Friends. Looking at the bigger picture, the developer sees this latest installment of the series as more exposure for its brands, while simultaneously tapping into the up-and-coming freemium business model.

Be on the lookout for the game to hit Android devices soon. Oh— and please don’t blame us for any lost time in productivity.

Since the major acquisition last year, Google has made it clear that it wants QuickOffice to make accessing and editing various Microsoft Office documents for the average consumer— but what about the various businesses out there? Considering the Optimus G Pro has warranted a ton of praise from both the press as well as customers out there, it should come as no surprise that LG has officially hit a milestone with the device. The Korean manufacturer announced it has sold 10,000 on its initial February 21st launch. Oh and for good measure, LG confirmed that Optimus G Pro sales topped over the coveted 500,000 unit mark during the first month of the release. It looks like customers out in Korea really took a liking to the beefed up specs including the 5.5-inch display, quad-core Snapdragon chip, 2 gigs of RAM and full LTE capabilities.

Now all we need is an American variant to officially hit the States and we’ll be in business.

As part of its initiative to introduce some topnotch voice call capabilities, AT&T has confirmed it will roll out some improved network capabilities for its customers. First off the bat is the Ma Bell offering full HD Voice service for its customers later this year. AT&T senior VP Kris Rinne asserts that “HD Voice is part of our voice over LTE strategy“. The reasoning, you ask? AT&T certainly lacks the call quality and clarity that its competition has, so it is in the wireless carrier’s best interests to ensure that its call quality is topnotch.

Additionally, AT&T will showcase even more features for its customers. Rinne confirmed that AT&T is currently working on “advanced LTE”, which does things to reduce interference and bond together traffic from various frequencies which you guessed it— will presumably help to improved things like its upcoming HD Voice service.

Look for both the “advanced LTE” and HD Voice to arrive sometime later this year.

We already know that Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 mini is very much real and on the way, but it’s looking like the general public is going to see the smartphone much sooner than expected. Notorious info leaker SamMobile recently received a major tip containing much more information regarding the intriguing new device and claims it may be unveiled as early as this week. The tip alleges that we will see the device arrive in two colors (black mist and white frost) and will come in either single or dual-SIM variants. Additionally, the single-SIM variant will be identified as the GT-9190 and will feature a quad-core chip— while the dual-SIM variant will be identified as the GT-9192 and feature a dual-core processor. Aside from those differences, each variant will feature a 4.3-inch qHD display, 8MP camera and Android 4.2.2.

No word on pricing yet, but the Galaxy S 4 mini should arrive by the end of may or the start of June.

Sure we’re all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the hottest smartphone of the year, but that hasn’t stopped the gang at XDA from bringing the world glorious root capabilities. That’s why the gang has gone ahead and showcased its ROM is packaged with ROOT&Busybox into an image flashable via Odin. As exciting as it is to see the Galaxy S 4 being on its way to truly realizing its full potential, the gang at XDA highlights that the root method is only for the octa-core Exynos 5 variant of the smartphone, meaning the rest of us who will be on the Snapdragon version will be out of luck… for now at least.

Now if we can only get some certainty that we’ll get some custom goodies taking advantage of the Galaxy S 4′s root, we’ll be in business.

HTC has officially taken the wraps off of the Desire P smartphone, its latest lower-end mid-range device for folks out over in Taiwan. The device comes with a zippy dual-core Qualcomm chip, 768MB of RAM, a 4-inch display and an 8MP camera— all crammed into a fairly sleek and attractive package that’s sure to catch the eye of folks out there. When all’s said and done, the Desire P is more or less a One SV smartphone minus the 4G LTE capabilities.

The device will be launched with wireless carrier Chunghwa Telecom for a modest price of $365, though HTC has given no indication that it will be released anywhere else at this time.

Yup— it’s looking more and more like 2013 is shaping up to be the year of the Sony devices for Android fans. New rumors have surfaced indicating that the ever-growing manufacturer is all set to bring in some topnotch camera and sound capabilities in its Xperia line of handsets. Let me explain– rampant rumors have surfaced recently regarding speculation of Sony’s Cyber-shot and Walkman technologies into the following upcoming flagships: a 5-inch Cyber-shot-based smartphone with unrivaled camera capabilities, a 5-inch Xperia Walkman-based device featuring an integrated amplifier chip, an “iPhone competitor” with a small form factor and finally, a mysterious phablet-type device. The neat thing is the fact that each rumored device are expected to feature top of the line guts inside which presumably include a hyper-fast processing chip and a current/up-to-date version of Android.

Naturally Sony is staying mum on the possibility of some attractive devices on the horizon, but considering it has plans on sitting at the big boy table in the near-future, these rumors shouldn’t be too far-fetched.
