  • RIM co-CEO says BlackBerry 6 (OS 6.0) coming Q3, 2010

WES 2010 hasn’t brought too many surprises, until co-CEO Mike Lazaridis started talking about OS 6.0, which will be called BlackBerry 6. Apparently RIM’s next generation operating system, BlackBerry 6 will be available in the next calender quarter, and is set to be released along side with the much rumored Webkit Browser. Speaking of the browser, it was interesting to hear that it will NOT be a stand alone application, and will be integrated into OS 6. BlackBerry 6 obviously will have support for both touch and non-touch screen devices, and will work on a variety of BlackBerry devices. One thing the co-CEO would not say is which devices it will and won’t run on.

What do you think? Will BlackBerry 6 interest you?

  • BlackBerry Pearl 9100 to be $449 (no contract) from Bell and Rogers…

It’s no secret that Canada’s major three networks (Bell. Rogers and TELUS) will be offering RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry Pearl 9100 smartphone. It seems that new confirmation has arrived showing the outright/no contract price for the Pearl 9100 from both Bell and Rogers will be around $449.99. We haven’t seen anything from TELUS yet, but its expected to come in around the same price. I know I was hoping they would bring this device in at a little cheaper price… Closer to $399, but who knows that they will plan by the time of its launch. With any luck we will see an official announcement from RIM about this device at WES 2010, later next week.

  • Unreleased CDMA BlackBerry Clamshell (9670) Gets Leaked!

Mmm… That’s how I want to start this paragraph. Some people will love it, some will hate it, but this is RIM’s next CDMA clamshell smartphone, the BlackBerry 9670. This device will be one of RIM’s first to operate OS 6.0, feature a 5.0 megapixel camera, and get a full QWERTY keyboard in a small compact clamshell design. This device will also feature an optical trackpad, Wi-Fi, internal display of 360×480, huge external display, micro USB port and microSD slot inside. The body seems to be made of a metallic finish, and we think it looks pretty sweet for an early prototype. No one seems to know when this device will get finalized, or launched, but we are hoping it comes around the same time as OS 6.0.

What do you think? Will you rock this little clamshell BlackBerry?

  • Hands-On with RIM’s Upcoming BlackBerry OS 6.0!

Boy Genius was dropped some hands-on shots of RIM’s upcoming OS 6.0 for BlackBerry smartphones. The new OS brings a familiar feeling, but with some much needed improvements. OS 6.0 will feature RIM’s much talked about WebKit Browser, completely customizable home screen, and system wide kinetic scrolling. We aren’t too sure when OS 6.0 will be launching, however BG seems to think it’ll be sometime in June or July. I suggest you check out his full thoughts on OS 6.0 here.

  • BlackBerry Pearl 9105 (T9 Verison) Gets Photo’d Again…

When I hear the Pearl I think Suretype, but I suppose that’s going to change soon. It’s not a secret that RIM’s been working on the T9 version of the upcoming Pearl 9100 smartphone, and Ronen from BerryReview scored more shots of the Pearl 9105 in the wild. The Pearl 9105 will bring a more classic feeling to the BlackBerry market with only 12 keys. We aren’t too sure when we will see this model launch, however we do hope to see at least the Pearl 9100 get officially recognized next week at WES 2010.

The device will give several options for text input including:

    • Compound words
    • Context learning
    • Auto word learning
    • Using contacts as a data source
    • predictive typing (Probably based on T9)
    • Including spell check variations of words in predictive typing
