Holly Madison is best known as the former girlfriend of Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner, but this blonde bombshell is making a name for herself these days, and is doing just fine on her own.
Holly Sue Cullen was born in Oregon but moved to Alaska when she was 2. When she was 11-years-old her family moved back to Oregon and there she resided until she was 19. Then it was time for Los Angeles. But Holly didn’t move there for fame and fortune, she moved there for college. While attending college she worked as a Hooters girl and was a Hawaiian Tropic contestant. Soon after she was invited to and attended parties at the Playboy mansion. A mere two years later she was Hef’s main squeeze.
Fast forward to 2010.
Holly is now one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. Despite her split with Hef she has managed to hold her own and is building a name for herself. Last year she starred on the hit celeb-reality show, Dancing with the Stars, began headlining the sexy Vegas burlesque show, PEEPSHOW (which plays at Planet Hollywood), and premiered a “preview episode” of her upcoming E! reality show, Holly’s World, which revolves around her life in Las Vegas.
Not too shabby.
I was hoping to get to see PEEPSHOW while in Las Vegas last week, but unfortunately the show was on hiatus and didn’t begin again until March 1st. (The day I left!) Next time I absolutely plan on attending the show. The great thing is that they have a post show “Meet & Greet” with Holly as an exclusive add-on to your PEEPSHOW ticket. Imagine having a champagne toast with Holly, an autographed photo of her and the best part, an opportunity to take a photo with her!
Second best to attending the show and the Meet & Greet, I was lucky enough to score an interview with Holly. I’m still bummed I couldn’t see her show, but still thrilled to have gotten a moment of her time. Holly filled us in on her childhood, her current projects and whether or not she has a new man in her life.
Spicy: You grew up in Alaska and Oregon. Which of the two do you consider to be more of your “home”?
Holly: I consider Alaska more home because it is so different from anywhere else, really rural, and I feel it really shaped who I am.
Spicy: You were born Hollin Sue Cullen. (Which the vampires will love to hear!) How did you come up with the name Holly Madison?
Holly: Everyone always called me Holly. Hollin was just the name my Mom screamed at me when she was mad, so there are no good associations with that. I picked Madison because it was a name no one could ever misspell or mispronounce. In the pre-Twilight days, people always got Cullen wrong. They always read it “Collin” “Collins” or “Colin.”
Spicy: You have obviously been doing fabulous in your single life. Do you ever have moments of regretting leaving Hef and the Playboy mansion?
Holly: I enjoyed my time at the Mansion, but I don’t regret leaving. My time at the Mansion was like a second childhood. I was very sheltered and had a 9pm curfew. I felt I had done everything I could do in the Playboy world and it was time to grow up and move on.
Spicy: Tell us about your upcoming reality show, Holly’s World. What can we expect?
Holly: “Holly’s World” is going to be a very fun show focused on me and my Las Vegas family. It will show a different side of Vegas, besides the obvious nightclubs and gambling.
Spicy: I’m sure the men want to know, are you available right now?
Holly: Yes, I am available right now.
Spicy: Any other exciting upcoming projects we should know about?
Holly: I am currently writing a book about Las Vegas, a visitors’ guide for young women.
Spicy: Your greatest childhood memory is….?
Holly: My favorite childhood memories are the family vacations I went on . . Disneyland and random road trips.
Spicy: Dancing with the Stars – or Girls Next Door? Which did you enjoy more?
Holly: I really enjoyed both Dancing With the Stars and The Girls Next Door. They are like apples and oranges, you can’t compare them. One was like a fun time with my girlfriends and the other was like an old Hollywood production, complete with a custom costume department.
