  • Perinatology thinks I’m Type 1

I had to do the C-Peptide test in order for my insurance to justify the purchase of the Dexcom GM (CIGNA dictates it as a pre-requisite) and the results came back that I am basically making NO insulin on my own. Before the pregnancy, I was taking Byetta 10mcg twice daily with 2g’s of Metformin and, yes, I had a severe case of dawn phenomenon but my HbA1c was at 6%. Morning sugars were always around 125-150. I am 34 weeks along, now they are talking about possible inducement at 38 weeks if the insulin they put me on (switched from Novolog to U-500) doesn’t show an improvement in my current numbers.
I am really insulin resistant with this pregnancy. I have to bolus 45 minutes before I eat and my sugars still shoot up before the insulin crests and the sugar creeps down.

Has anyone else been type 2 and this happen or have the members here always been type 1?

  • Before I head over to the Pregnancy forum..

Hello to all! I’m a type 2 since ’02 and am usually on Byetta & Metformin but when I’m pregnant (which I am, DD is 3/7/10 🙂 ) I’m pumping via a Pink Animas Ping. I also wear a Dexcom Glucose monitor and have just switched from Novolog to U-500 insulin thanks to this pregnancy making me highly insulin resistant. Well…that and insulin makes me gain weight. Alot of weight. That’s probably a good factor as well.

Either way, Good morning and Cheers!
