We all have our own trials and tribulations in this blinding snowstorm, to be sure. I’ve had to bring my dogs to work, but how lucky am I that the U.S. Capitol allows such a thing!?
Sen. Kent Conrad, D-ND, always brings his little “Dakota” in. And of course, the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-MA, was most famous for bringing in his two loveable Portugese water dogs (yes – the same kind the Obama’s now have). You would start to walk into an elevator in the Russell Senate office building, where his office was, and out would bound the huge dogs!
Having a bit of fun here at work —- meet Senator Satchmo! Love this snowstorm!
In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was a cursed king doomed to roll a bolder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down again. Of course, in Washington, and especially in the Capitol, where I work, this poor guy’s predicament is a well-worn analogy for politicians. But this morning, I found myself thinking about the fruitless task as I made my way into the U.S. Capitol where my office located.
You see, members of the media, especially those in cable news, don’t get days off, no matter how bad the weather. So — slipping and sliding down my driveway, into a rather large crew vehicle, and slipping and sliding my way into work, even encountering a convo of power trucks (not a heartening sight – please dont let the power go out!), and past famous memorials barely visible through the blizzard — you can imagine how the cursed king came to mind.
Attached is a quick snapshot of my commute through the lonely streets of Washington — ok, that part wasn’t so bad, as these streets are usually crushed with traffic. So while there was some slipping and sliding, at least there was a n upside.
Of course, many reporters get to stay in nearby hotels, but I have dogs — so, no dice. Result? They’re here at work with me. They’re the cute ones in the last picture. Meet Ella & Satchmo!
Hope you enjoy the pics.
