  • Ah! My Goddess

I just started watching this anime, got the first season on DVD, yeah I know I’m slow, but I’m checking the second season out now and it’s **** funny. You guys should check it out if you have the chance.
  • Knew it was coming.

Anyone else out there have so many family members with diabetes that you knew it was coming, just not when?
My mom is a T1 so I learned about the shots and everything when I was real young. My grandfathers on both sides and my grandmother on my father’s side were T2 and my father is newly diagnosed T2. I knew it was gonna happen and every year the physical was so will this be the year?
Ironically, had I known what metabolic disorder was I would have caught this even sooner but what is is. It was almost a relief when I was diagnosed, it’s something I don’t have to worry about constantly, I just have to deal with it, sorta a missed blessing 😀
  • Diabetic gamers, what’s your live tag

I just resigned up for live gold last night after an extended leave because I had no games I cared to play online. Spent the night playing Left 4 Dead 2 and LOVED it. If anyone wants to play look for me on Golintaim. I’m a night owl so the later the more likely I’ll be on.
  • My cat

My cat is the biggest brat I’ve ever witnessed, yes it’s mostly my fault. This morning as I’m almost ready to leave I went to step over my bed to get out of my bedroom and she jumped in the way. Normal, no biggie so I put my foot on the bed and shifted my wieght to step over her and the bed. While doing that she jumped up on my leg started purring thunderously and laid right down on my leg nuzzling my knee.
I can’t resist that so I stood there with a cat on my knee for five minutes petting her and watching her sometimes frantically mark my knee like she thought someone was gonna steal me.
Just thought I’d share something that made me smile.
  • Dried Cranberries, my new crack

I got a box of dried cranberries, they were on sale 9 oz for 79 cents, and I’ve been eating a handful here and there and I love them. Eaten in moderation I haven’t had a problem with spikes and more oddly I have watched as I handle higher carb foods MUCH better than I ever did.
This morning I had a mixture of white rice, red kidney beans, chicken and some sour cream. Normally, white rice destroys my BG counts, I have a soft spot for it though so I gave in. Worse it was the morning so I was waiting for the read of 200+ on my meter after being around 90 +/- 4 at that time in the morning and I was within my normal limits. I have to do more experimenting but I was wondering if anyone has had any similar expereinces with a new food helping your BG counts way more than you would normally think it should.
  • Blood donations

I just started giving blood recently and I am really glad I do but I’ve come to the conclusion that even though it’s a great thing to do and I will always try to get everyone around me to donate when they can that it’s kinda boring. So I thought a good way to help on getting more people to donate and making it more fun is to get together a donating group.
Just organize some friends and pick a day to all flood a blood drive with people. I’m trying to put one together in NY so if you’re far from here do it yourself. You can meet new people have some fun with friends and help out people that need something only you can give.
PS. Most diabetics can give blood in the US, I think it’s only type 1’s that used bovine insulin if I recall correctly. Piercings don’t take you of it either as long as they used sterile needles so get some blood buddies together and give the gift of life.
  • My first Christmas

So this was my first Christmas after being diagnosed and I did a **** of lot better than I thought I would. It certainly helped that most of my friends know about my condition and almost my entire direct family is also diabetic so I didn’t get the normal flood of cookies and candies, but I did get dark chocolate mmmm.
It was actually a lot easier than I though, I just ate less than I usually did which is how I’ve been losing wieght anyway.
  • Title Question

How do you get the little title thing after your name to be what type of diabetic you are? I swear sometimes I go forum stupid, hope this is the right place.
  • The fruit issue

I’ve been avoiding fruit for the most part since I was DX’ed and was wondering what you guys do to deal with the fruit issue? I have found a new love in blueberries and I occasionally have an apple, which I deal with fine if it’s a small one that is tart, or orange.
Any tricks you guys have to include more fruit?
  • Tai chi and other mind body arts

I do Tai chi when I can and Qi Gong most days. It’s a good workout, it calms and centers me and brings my BG down well. I was wondering what other people’s experiences have been with mind body arts.
  • Facebook for us?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a Diabetes group in Facebook, and if not if people would be interested in joining one if I applied my meager Facebook skills to the project?
  • My new favorite toy

I just got one of those under desk cycles and I just wanted to share how awesome they are. I can use it all day for hours and since it fits under my desk no one ever knows <.< >.>
It’s a great way to sneak in some extra exercise during the day if you’re busy.
