pandorum

1969. man lands on the moon. world population = 3.6 billion.
2000. kelper telescope is launched to search for earth-like planets. world population = 6.76 billion
2153. paleo-17 space probe lands on planet “tanis”world population = 24.34 billion
food and water shortage are commonplace.
2174. the battle for earth’s limited resources reaches its boiling point. spacecraft “elysium” is launched.pandorum tells the story of spaceship “elysium” after the existence of planet earth. elysium carries 60,000 passengers to a new planet called “tanis”, a new home for human. corporal bower wakes up from hyper-sleep with no recollection of where he is or what he is supposed to do. he is unable to contact anyone and access the ship’s bridge. as he searches through the ship he finds lieutenant payton who also just wakes up from hyper-sleep. together they must figure the way out before it is too late. they soon find that they are not the only persons who are strolling around this ship.
pandorum is a sci-fi space horror film with captivating plot. it could have been a good sci-fi thriller, but they chose to make it a horror film by adding ugly monsters which made me feel like watching space version of predator. furthermore, one on one duel fight scene was more interesting in the 90s.

foursquare

what is foursquare?
foursquare is a cross between a friend-finder, a social city-guide to build things to not only help you keep up with the places your friends go, but that encourage you to discover new places and challenge you to explore your neighborhood in new ways.why use foursquare?
to share your favorite venues with friends and discover their venues that you have never been to. giving your tips such as recommended drinks, food or things to do, as well as getting from others.how to use foursquare?
just head out to register at foursquare.com, then you can select platform you are using whether it’s android, palm, or iphone, or you can go for m.foursquare.com which works on most of the phones out there. now you are ready to “check-in” to the venues, add new venues, add new tips, and add friends to your list.
what to add?
any interesting venues that you feel like you want to share with the whole world. do not forget to add information or tips about the places that you check-in or add because mostly people simply cannot comprehend what the venue is about by judging from its name.i do appreciate people who are constantly trying to localize foursquare by adding thai titles and addresses, but it is better that you use english along with thai ones if possible since foursquare is not about thais, and we actually want to share the informative data to those who cannot read or understand thai language.
what not to add?
there are no actual rules about what not to add. but the essence is pretty simple…“if you cannot think of a single tip to recommend others to do at that place, then it probably should not be added since it would be useless for others”
soi, junction, bridge, road, atm, home, gas station,7-11, bts, mrt… it is amazing how thai people try to check-in everywhere pointlessly. we do not want to know exactly where you are at all time in foursquare. imagining a person checking-in to every bts and mrt station or passing through soi and bridge. the idea is just absurd.
please do search for the existing venues before adding new one. and make sure that you add the correct name of the venue or you might end up shining ingloriously at byte me, bkk.

objectified is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and the people who design them. it is about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. the film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers including chris bangle, erwan & ronan bouroullec, anthony dunne, dan formosa, fiona raby, karim rashid, amber shonts, marc newson, jonathan ive, naoto fukasawa, and dieter rams.
fascinating documentary by gary hustwit whom is known for a famous film, titled helvetica. this time he makes us look around and see how design impacts our lives as every day we are surrounded by design which most people take for granted. in fact, there is a story embed in every object.

where the wild things are

the adaptation of maurice sendak’s 1963 children’s picture book of the same name, telling the story of a young boy named ‘max’ who runs away from home and sets sail to an unknown island inhabited by creatures know as the wild things. are they real or they are just living in his imagination?
“where the wild things are” features brilliant script, amazingly beautiful cinematography, and incredibly wonderful soundtrack. it is sublime, truly. visualization is such a feast to the eyes. this is an oustanding film for children. unfortunately thai children are probably gonna miss watching it, how tragic.

the men who stare at goats

it is a movie adapted from a book with same title written by jon ronson about the u.s. army’s exploration of new age concepts and potential military application of the paranormal.
the film follows bob, a reporter who stumbles onto lyn cassady the legendary special force operator who soon reveals that he was a part of an american army unit who were trained to be psychic spies a.k.a. jedi warriors. each of them possesses unique special ability including invisibility, remote viewing, walk through walls, and the most dangerous of all, stop the beating heart by just staring.
the performances of two main actors, ewan mcgregor and george clooney are remarkable. however the story is somehow confusing, it is like a bit of this here and there. it fails to captivate the audience’s attention at the whole time. it lacks of consistency in storytelling. i must admit that there are several super amusing scenes. but to tell the truth, i half expected that ewan would pull out a real lightsaber and transform into obi-wan kenobi.

21

21 tells the story of an mit senior student, ben who is accpeted into harvard medical school. unfortunately he cannot afford $300,000 tuition fee and expenses. so he applies for a scholarship but he is also facing fierce competition up against other well-qualified applicants who also have the same 4.0 gpa, unless he comes up with something dazzling different.
he is invited to join blackjack team, which every weekend they will go to vegas working together as a team to gain money from blackjack game at the casinos with the special trick called “counting” that allows them to know exactly which card is going to come out next. without much choices to choose, he agrees to join the team until he can make the money enough for his med school. but everything does not always go as planned, they are not the only people who know the trick.
the script is probably a problem here, it is like a teen drama flick in vegas. where are all the excitement and thrilling moments? no twist, everything is predictable. now i have no idea why i watched it.
