Lady Gaga looks lovely is lace on the cover of the Jan. 2010 issue of 944 Magazine.
The 23-year-old pop sensation — styled by Nicola Formichetti — creates a diva storm all of the cover of this year’s Vanguard Issue!
“Lady Gaga has liberated music and fashion the way David Bowie and other Brit Glam rockers did in the seventies – using costume, artifice and drama while bending gender norms and conventions. But she also one ups everyone with her phenomenal vocal talent and truly unique aesthetic,” says 944 editor Martine Bury.
The Viacom vs. Google/YouTube lawsuit has become something of a running joke in legal circles over the amount of time it’s taken to run through the discovery process and actually get the lawsuit moving. However, people are now expecting the case to finally move forward. Both Google and Viacom have asked for summary judgment, claiming that there’s enough evidence that a trial isn’t needed. That’s all to be expected. What’s odd, though, is that Viacom’s filing has pretty much the entire “background” section redacted. Check out page two on the document below:
I’m trying to figure out what could possibly be so confidential as to require redacting in such a case. Maybe the details of why Viacom thinks Google can identify which clips are infringing when even Viacom couldn’t properly identify infringing clips and included a bunch that it had put online itself. Because thinking that Google can figure out Viacom’s intentions when even Viacom can’t figure them out certainly seems like a pretty big mystery to me.
China is officially the world’s largest auto market. With an estimated 13.6 million vehicles sold in 2009, the Chinese market grew by about 45 percent between ‘08 and ‘09. American sales of cars and light trucks however, plunged by about 21% in 2009 to around 10.4 million units.
The growth exhibited by the Chinese market out-performed J.D. Power & Associates predictions. This just reaffirms China’s status as a rising world economy, having over-taken Germany last year as the world’s largest exporter, and they are expected to overtake Japan soon as the world’s second largest economy.
China has long been expected to eventually become the world’s largest auto market, but not until 2020, the latest economic crisis slowed the U.S. economy to the point where China could take over, and sales are expected to climb even further in 2010. Both GM and Ford have seen astronomical increases in their Chinese sales figures for 2009.
Motorola announced at CES that both T-Mobile’s Cliq and the new Backflip will be jumping from Android 1.5 to 2.1. They didn’t officially announce a carrier, but there’s plenty of information out there pointing to AT&T.
With a folding keyboard that leaves the QWERTY exposed when closed, and a “backtrack” touch pad on the back side of the display panel, Backflipe definitely has a few tricks up its sleeve. Novelty or practical design? I guess we’ll find out when the review units start turning up.

Mitsubishi Motors North America is currently inviting agencies to pitch its $200 million advertising account as their current agency is expected to surrender the business without resistance. Select Resources International of Santa Monica, Calif is heading the search.
In 2008, Mitsubishi surprised the advertising industry when it dropped Omnicom Group’s BBDO West for El Segundo’s Traffic.
Mitsubishi’s U.S. sales plunged by 45% in 2009 after a 26% drop in 2008. All models however, have shown sales increases going into 2010, December having shown a 50% sales increase over November.
“The improvement in December sales validates our renewed strategies and tactics,” said Shinichi Kurihara, president-CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, in a statement. “The input provided by our dealers’ National Advisory Board has been instrumental in guiding our revised sales plans and actions, and will continue to do so as we collaborate to extend this sales momentum.”

Just been having this debate with some friends of mine so thought I’d ask on here as well, So which BME group would you say is the most hated / and liked in Britain, and why?
I know this could be a bit of contentious thread but I believe we can discuss it without resorting to insults :dunno:
Most disliked i’d say are Somalains, I live in probably one the most diverse areas of Sheffield, probably Britain, and I’d say they’re by far the most hated for the reasons also stated in this report,

Chrysler dealers seem by and large to be in pretty good financial shape, as GMAC financial has approved 93% of Chrysler Group dealers who have applied for wholesale credit lines. GMAC has taken over as the captive finance arm for Chrysler by order of the government, and Chrysler dealers seem pleased to date with the change.
“We approved the vast majority of Chrysler dealers who applied for wholesale credit lines and are continuing to work with the few remaining dealers that have conditional approval,” GMAC President Bill Muir said in a statement this morning.
The United States Treasury now owns 56% of GMAC by way of a recent deal whereby the financial company received a $3.79 billion infusion.

Chrysler Signature Series, the most innovative family vehicle on the road today, offers a great palette to show how stylish our minivans can be while delivering the innovations and irreplaceable functionality Chrysler minivans are known for; and the Chrysler PT Cruiser Couture Edition, gives one of the most timeless vehicles on the road today an added dose of sophistication to its already head-turning good looks.”
The defining face of Chrysler vehicles features a winged Chrysler badge, a distinctive grille, and sculpted hood. Beyond these signature elements, each Chrysler vehicle is stunning, innovative and alluring in a unique way.
Chrysler 300 S6 and 300 S8 Starting with the sedan that marked the return of the great American car, the new 2010 Chrysler 300 S6 (3.5-liter V-6 engine) and 300 S8 (HEMI® V-8 engine) reignite the vehicle’s incredible styling in an all-new model.
Both the Chrysler 300 S6 and 300 S8 models add a very serious, low-key look to the bold proportions of the Chrysler 300. Starting with its 300 roots, the 300 S6 and 300 S8 models trade-in their full-chromed grilles and fascia accents for blacked-out grilles with chromed surround and body-color fascia accents. New darkened headlamp bezels keep up the low-key look, while cleanly “shaved” doors with body-color mirrors and large 20-inch polished face wheels with painted pockets, hint at the 300 S6 and 300 S8’s handling potential. Chromed door handles, belt molding and daylight opening surrounds foreshadow the luxurious appointments within the vehicle.
The cabins of the new Chrysler 300 S6 and 300 S8 models exude a serious, athletic-interior theme. A uniquely designed steering wheel with carbon weave is accented with red stitching and brushed silver spokes. Beautifully bolstered Dark Slate Gray leather front seats are track-tested and feature an embroidered “300 S” logo on the seatback. Specially perforated Dark Slate Gray suede fills the front and rear seats, seatback and seat cushion with hints of red accent beneath. The Dark Slate interior theme continues around the driver and passenger side and is highlighted with brushed aluminum accents on the instrument panel center stack, center console side trim and upper-door trim. Carbon-weave door-pull handles with red accent stitching finish off the interior of both 300 S6 and 300 S8 models.
Keeping passengers connected with their favorite tunes or mobile devices, the 300 S6 and 300 S8 models feature an array of user-friendly technologies including a 13-speaker Kicker audio system with a 322-watt amplifier and 100-watt subwoofer, Uconnect™ Phone, iPod® Control and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Additional standard convenience features include remote start, heated front seats, power driver and passenger seat, power-adjustable pedals, HomeLink universal transceiver and Tire-pressure Monitoring (TPM).
Designed to deliver excitement, the Chrysler 300 S6 and 300 S8 models feature a performance-tuned suspension with performance shocks, steering, all-season performance Goodyear Eagle RSA tires and performance brake linings.
The 2010 Chrysler 300 S6 delivers its driving excitement through a fuel-efficient, 250 horsepower (186 kW) 24-valve 3.5-liter high-output V-6 engine with Auto Stick, capable of 25 highway mpg.

(527 N•m) of torque and features fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) technology that provides as much as a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy. Mated to a quality-proven five-speed Auto Stick transmission, the 2010 Chrysler 300 S8 delivers 25 highway mpg.

KFC advertisement in Australia sparks race row
By Nick Bryant
BBC News, Sydney
The Australian arm of the fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken has had to withdraw an advertisement after accusations of racial insensitivity.
It showed a white cricket fan trying to pacify a group of rowdy West Indian fans by handing around fried chicken.
When the advertisement reached America via the internet there were complaints.
It was accused of reinforcing a derogatory racial stereotype linking black people in the American deep south with a love of fried food.
The advertisement from Kentucky Fried Chicken features a white cricket fan dressed in the green and gold of the Australian team surrounded by a group of West Indian supporters, who are dancing and singing to a calypso beat.
He decides to quieten them down by handing around a bucket of fried chicken.
Picked up by the American media, the advertisement immediately stirred controversy, because it was alleged to have perpetuated the racial stereotype that black people eat a lot of fried chicken.
The fast food chain’s head office in America said it was withdrawing the advertisement, and apologised for what it called "any misrepresentation" which might have caused offence.
It is the second time in three months that something broadcast in Australia has caused a racial stir in America.
The last flare-up was over an entertainment show on the Australian network Channel Nine in which a group of singers appeared with blacked-up faces to impersonate the Jackson Five.
So much for New Year’s resolutions. There I was on Jan. 1, knee-deep in luggage, resolved to board a greyhound to Lafayette, La. to begin my new life as a philosophy major. Then a tweet came screaming through the ether into my iPhone. UL-Lafayette had announced it was doing away with its philosophy degree. Extinguished were my hopes of becoming an educated southern gentleman, drawling on Epictetus and gazing into the Heraclitean flux of my mint julep.
The pain brought to mind the trauma of last fall, when I showed up at Michigan State with a trunk full of Sophocles and some nasty stuff by Catullus in my back pocket, only to be informed that MSU was axing its classics major. No dorm room bacchanalia with maenad coeds. No drinking Old Milwaukee out of a kantharos. No impressing girls by reading aloud the letters on the fraternity houses.
I was beginning to fear this country no longer had room for a man of my liberal arts persuasion. Thereupon a dark spell came over me. I alternated between carving out chunks of my flesh and flipping through Forbes magazine.
But, just when I was poised to toss a coin and either hack off a limb or major in business, a tweet came blistering through the ether into my iPhone and restored my will to live. The University of Texas at Austin has paved the way to the future of education with a new course: The English Major in the Workplace.
Here students read Death of a Salesman and follow it up with strategies for networking, writing good resumes and giving successful job interviews (this is not a joke). With classes like that, UT is a school that is going to hang onto its English major.
At last, the fuzzy and worthless humanities have become relevant!
Before, we of the humanities had to lurk in the shadows of the nation’s majority, the business majors–teaching their children, writing their newspapers, eating from dumpsters, going to law school when resignation struck. All the while we envied their productivity, their synergy, their output-ability. But most of all, we admired their scrupulous attention to ethics, those questions concerning our collective wellbeing and ultimate aims as individual human beings. Now, finally, we’re getting the specialized workplace skills we need in order to join them in the bang-up business they are doing all across America.
And this is only the beginning. I can only dream of all the other potential edifying courses I will be able to take as an English major in the second decade of the 21st century. Look for these classes in your upcoming course catalog:
How to Sell Your Soul: The Faustian Tradition
The Brothers Karamazov and the Brothers Lehman: The Pitfalls of Family Finance
Siegfried Sasoon/Vidal Sasoon: A Comparison in (Entrepreneurial) Style
Heart of Darkness: Kurtz as Corporate Visionary
Email, Text, Tweet: Advanced Composition
How to Tie a Tie
Selling/Stealing, Brokering/Bamboozling: The Power of Rhetoric
Naked Lunch Power Lunch: A Chat n’ Chew, Meet n’ Greet for Wingtipped Beatniks (martinis and mechanical dildos provided)
Speaking in Complete Sentences and Other Interviewing Strategies
The Power of Positive Thinking: A Study in Textual Exegesis
Bleak House: Sub-Prime Mortgaging and the Dickensian Dignity of Poverty
The Cubicle: A Space for Creative Exploration (prerequisite: Thinking Outside the Box while Inside a Cubicle)
If only the University of California would start offering courses like these. Then its alums would make so much money, they, rather than the state, could subsidize the cost of tuition.
With this new business casual makeover of the bed-headed patched-tweed English major, my degree is sure to make me a valuable worker in the jobless economy. Now I don’t have to major in business just to get ahead in the bread line.
What’s more, I can look my relatives square in the face when they ask me what I’m going to do with a degree in English and tell them:
“Why, I’m going to join the workforce, juggles spreadsheets, earn great big pots of money, sink it into an oversized house, boost the GDP, watch shitloads of prerecorded television, sire some children who will be even more ignorant than I am, get laid off, lose the house, get sick, and then hope to God by that time one of my idiot kids has majored in business and makes enough money to put me in a private nursing home, where I will slowly drool out all memory of my existence.”
“Wonderful,” they’ll say. “That sounds just like a business degree. Eminently practical.”
This morning I got a chance to cover the Nokia keynote for GigaOm and the big news wasn’t about devices. Instead it was all about why Nokia continues to focus on developing nations, and I’m glad I got to see the explanation. Several mini-presentations showed me how much technology I take from granted. We’re constantly on the lookout for the latest tech and hottest hardware with the best specifications. And yet the most basic of phones can do so much more. Perhaps not in terms of functionality, but definitely with regards to making life better. Here’s an excerpt of what I wrote earlier:
“Crop monitoring, pricing, weather tracking and the sending of currency from a handset are promising types of applications for developing areas, according to Kallasvuo. Today, many of these tasks can be done with Nokia Life Tools on a basic phone costing $32 — still a large sum in developing areas, but the investment can pay dividends. Advanced apps like Nokia Tej on a basic handset allow for supply chain orders through mobile phones, removing paperwork and other obstacles in already challenged lands.”
I recommend a look at the Nokia Progress Project to see the positive impact Nokia is making. The company is clearly dedicated to “connecting people” and I see that now more than ever after today’s event. It’s commitment is now backed up by a Global Economy Venture Challenge with a one million dollar investment to the winner. Nokia is looking for an application idea that helps make life easier and provides upward mobility for people that live on less than $5 a day. As I read the details, you don’t need to be a developer (although that would likely help), so if you’ve got an idea, you might want to submit it. The whole idea is that developers can both “do good business and do good” at the same time.
Hard currency aside, I walked away from today’s keynote with a new perspective on Nokia’s global commitment. It gave me pause when I think about how so many of us focus on their declining smartphone market share. Clearly, there’s more to business than market share — making a positive impact on people’s lives is part of the success equation as well.

London / Munich, 4th November 2009 — Renesas Technology Europe today announced the release of a total of eight versions of the SH7266 and SH7267, two new high-performance 32-bit MCU products with an on-chip SRAM size of 1.5 MB, that are intended for embedded applications in the industrial and consumer fields such as displays for digital audio players or graphical dashboards. Sample shipments will begin in February 2010.
The SH7266 and SH7267 are the enhanced products of the SH7260 Series that belongs to the SuperH™ *1 Family of high-performance 32-bit RISC MCUs. They each have 1.5 MB of large-capacity on-chip SRAM, an increase of 50% from the 1 MB of earlier MCUs in the SH7260 Series, to take the place of external synchronous DRAM (SDRAM). This makes it possible to implement a VGA display (640 × 480 pixels) without the need for external SDRAM. The large-capacity SRAM can be used as a display frame buffer or as a work area for storing programs or data. The SH7266 is available in a 144-pin QFP package and the SH7267 in a 176-pin QFP package.
The SH7266 and SH7267 each have 1.5 MB of large-capacity on-chip SRAM that can be used in place of external SDRAM as a program or work area. The large-capacity SRAM can also be used as a display frame buffer for video data, eliminating the need to use external SDRAM for the frame buffer. When used as a frame buffer, the large-capacity SRAM can store two frames of video data in VGA format, an increase from the WQVGA format (480 × 240 pixels) of earlier products in the same series, which can be displayed on a TFT LCD panel via a display controller. This contributes to reducing overall system cost and size.
The SH7266 and SH7267 provide a new video display controller and digital video input pins for use with graphical and video display applications. These support functionality such as video recording, size reduction, alpha blending effects (superimposition of transparent or semitransparent images), and superimposition of video input. Digital RGB output pins allow output of images or video in RGB565 format (in which each colour is represented by 16 bits: 5 bits for the red [R] component, 6 bits for green [G], and 5 bits for blue [B]) at up to VGA size.
This on-chip functionality makes it possible to develop products, such as car information systems with rear-view or side-view camera display and midrange or low-end graphical dashboard systems, using fewer devices and at a lower cost.
