President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed said that he is going to appoint a new prime minister. “I will soon appoint a new prime minister who will have the capability to end the difficult situation in the country,” he said.

The step made was aiming to end a bitter power struggle between the prime minister and the speaker of parliament.

Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur Madobe, the former speaker, announced at a briefing at the palace that he would resign. “I decided to resign today in front of the president in order to avoid the escalating conflict in the government,” Madobe said. “I decided to take this decision for the benefit of the Somali people.” Last Sunday, the MPs had passed a vote of no confidence in the government and they later voted to remove the speaker after the speaker had blamed Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke for the country’s woes. The president had avoided taking sides; however, he seems to have organized the removal of both men with his latest move. While Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe has stepped aside, it is unclear whether Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Shamarke will do the same. The president came to power in January 2007 and promised to create a government of national unity; however, many say that he has failed to build a broad national consensus and assert his authority on their country.

I am sure many of you are just counting down till and Android post for the HD2 is available. I know you care because I have constantly seen comments by the readers asking when this would acquire, but here is a little sign of hope. The new partial port was made by an XDA user who managed to boot Herat, and play a 720p video playing on the HD2 with the help of Linux. What does that mean? Well what the video below and see.

Lindsay Lohan will be going back again to court on May 20, 2010 for her progress report. The court will see if she is in compliance with her DUI probation.

As we can remember, On August 23, 2007, Lohan, 23, was pleaded guilty to cocaine use and driving under the influence and was sentenced to one day in jail and 10 days community service. She was also ordered to pay fines and complete an alcohol education program, and was placed on three year probation. If Lindsay has violated the terms of the probation, it could be revoked and she could be back to jail, adding time to the 84 minutes that she served earlier. On that occasion she was released early because of overcrowding and the nonviolent nature of the crime.

However, this year, the court stated that Lindsay is not in compliance and could end up in contempt of court as a result, and this can lead again her to be placed in jail. But what went wrong? What was violated by Lindsay? The court stated that Lindsay is not attending the court ordered alcohol education classes every week, but has attended classes every 21st day, which complies with the school’s policy, but violates the court order.

Lohan’s attending attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley also stated that they have not received any negative report from the program hence, Lindsay is in compliance. Though there have been occasional weeks when Lindsay has missed her alcohol treatment class, she has always managed to make up the class the following week by attending two classes. For that reason, we contend that Ms. Lohan is in substantial compliance with the conditions of her probation.

Holley and Lohan will be waiting for Thursday to see what will happen. Will Lindsay end up again in jail?

With all the information being leaked from the WP7 ROM, the name HTC Mondrian has became a big mystery to the Windows Mobile community. We have posted what seemed to be the original images (which if you ask me, it is just a stupid looking HD1 with three buttons)  from the leaked ROM, well Pocketnow has a different rendering of the device which to me looks like a silver HTC Incredible(Back cover looks just like it).

I think from what I am seeing so far, someone has been playing, “let’s play the website by making a fake image, and saying it’s leaked” game. Yes, that is a mouthful, but that’s what seems to be happening.

Photos of Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih pole dancing circulated the internet hours after she won the pageant. The picture is taken when she won a pole dancing contest hosted by radio show Mojo In The Morning in 2007.

The photos may cause embarrassment to her integrity and also to the Muslim community so she didn’t want it to be made public.

Mojo In The Morning said that they have been contacted by people from Miss Universe asking for more information about the pole dancing contest. Mojo in the Morning asked the people from Miss Universe headquarters if Rima Fakih’s Miss USA title is in danger but they got no answer.

According to staff of Mojo in the Morning, “Mojo in the Morning fully supports Rimah Fakih as she represents Detroit and America in the Miss Universe contest. The radio show will not entertain requests to drag her name through the mud.”

Overview

The Good: Push notifications for Direct Messages (DMs) and integration with BlackBerry’s native message folder make for an impressive experience.

The Bad: This release is still pretty buggy; it hangs and lags too often for a final build, despite perfect 3G and Wi-Fi coverage.

Recommendation: Yes.  Despite the flaws, which can honestly get quite annoying at times, the features and execution are such that I would recommend this application to BlackBerry users.

The Background

I don’t have to tell you what Twitter is, where it came from, or the various purposes it serves.  If you’re reading this review, there’s a rock solid chance not only that you already know these things, but that you are a Twitter user yourself.  Generally, a review doesn’t require a background.  You use the app for a while, test and retest it from every angle possible, and write an impression of how it went.  Twitter for BlackBerry, the official Twitter application for BlackBerry, is more than just a Twitter app, it’s a complete paradigm shift from the way we have thought about Twitter until now.  And this is inclusive of all official Twitter apps across all mobile platforms. 

Twitter started out like any other insanely successful startup.  It found a niche, raised money through several rounds of VC funding, found a clever way to market itself, and blew up.  Today (as of late February 2010) Twitter sees over 50 million tweets per day, which equates to 600 tweets per second, according to their blog.  Twitter got its start on the web, but it wasn’t long before independent companies started developing clients that interact with the social network.  Many of you probably use TweetDeck, Seesmic, Twicca, Touiteur or a number of other Twitter clients either on your desktop, mobile device, or both—which brings us to the point at hand.

Twitter has made some bold moves over the past several months.  Between the purchase of Tweetie (a popular Twitter app for iPhone) and partnerships with BlackBerry and Android development teams to develop official Twitter apps for the two platforms, the company seems to be biting the hands that have fed them for quite some time.  What will happen to these companies in the future as Twitter continues to spread its reach is unknown.  But I felt it was important to incorporate the aforementioned information into this review, to acknowledge that the success (or lack thereof) of any official Twitter app, could quite possibly be a detriment to third party Twitter applications as we know them.

The Review

I have been using Twitter for Blackberry Public Beta (T4BB for short) for nearly a month now since its release to the public in early April.  Testing of the app has taken place in the Metro Atlanta area with pretty solid 3G and Wi-Fi coverage throughout, on a T-Mobile branded BlackBerry Bold 9700.  T4BB is a feature-rich application that contains all the functionality of the Twitter website, with added flare that will make it instantly familiar to seasoned BlackBerry users (such as the ‘t’ and ‘b’ shortcuts that instantly take you to the top or bottom of your timeline). T4BB will suck the life right out of your battery depending on usage and update settings, but so will any other application that updates itself on regular intervals.

Login

The login screen has a familiar look to it if you’ve used Twitter before, and I think this may be one of the reasons the company has decided to take control of the user experience.  Consumers like consistency and fluidity, and T4BB gets my vote in both of those departments.  Additionally, if you are new to Twitter you have the option to sign up for an account at the bottom right corner of the screen.  During the final phase of my testing, the T4BB app became unavailable for roughly 20 hours which, as you can imagine, was quite frustrating.  It turns out that the problem was on Twitter’s end not on BlackBerry’s, but 20 hours seems like a long time to be down.  The picture above on the right is the login screen hanging and eventually freezing as I tried to log in.  And while the issue, in this case, couldn’t be fully blamed on the app, hanging and lagging were consistent throughout my use of T4BB.

General Features

Like I said previously, T4BB has all the features of Twitter’s online web application, plus a few extra that are unique to BlackBerry.  After logging in, your first stop is the home screen where you’ll see all your options across the top of the screen in the form of a navigation bar.  If you prefer to maximize your screen real estate you have the option to go without the nav bar by selecting menu > options and de-selecting the “display navigation bar” check box.  Personally, I think the nav bar is an excellent feature and does exactly what its name says it should, allowing you to seamlessly navigate T4BB in a fast and simple manner.

The home icon is the first tab (it doesn’t look like a tab per se, but the way it’s set up I feel ‘tab’ is the best way to describe it) at the top left of the T4BB navigation bar.  When in the home tab a complete timeline of tweets from all the people and organizations you follow is displayed.  From here you can enter an update in the tweet box, reply to or retweet messages, add pictures to your tweets, and shorten URLs.  Replying and retweeting are simple tasks, though I found myself receiving the “twitter encountered a problem” error more frequently than I would have preferred considering tweeting and retweeting are the core features of Twitter.  Adding pictures to your tweets is simple and very convenient.  Just highlight the camera image on the left hand side of the screen directly below the tweet box and you’ll be directed to your primary pictures folder.  Select the picture, add any desired text, click update and you’re good to go.  It’s actually much easier to add pictures from your BlackBerry than it is if you’re using Twitter’s web-based application.  Shortening URLs, on the other hand, is not as simple as using a desktop client or the web-based application.  I’m not sure this can be attributed entirely to the T4BB app, though, because in general navigating back and forth between websites and apps on a BlackBerry is simply not as easy to do as it is on a desktop or laptop computer.  Nonetheless, once you’ve completed the steps necessary to copy and paste your link, you then need to highlight it again, press the menu key and select ‘Shorten Link(s)’ to get the job done.

     
 
To the right of the home tab you’ll find the @mentions tab which contains a timeline of all the tweets where your username has been @mentioned by others.  This tab has the same functionality as the home tab.  The next tab over is the lists tab.  Here you’ll find all your current lists and you’re also able to create new lists.  It’s quite simple, you just select the area that says “Create New List” and a bar pops up from the bottom asking for the name and description of the list and whether or not it’s private.  Once you’ve entered that information you select “create” and you’re good to go.

The Profile tab is actually pretty impressive.  Just like on the web all of your information including number of tweets, followers, lists and favorites is available and up to date.  You also have the ability to view and change your bio and location and the changes will be reflected on the Twitter website shortly thereafter.  Direct messages are kept separate from your normal timeline, which I like.  All too often people are updating their status when they really intended to send a DM to someone.  Separating the DMs out of the regular timeline avoids the problem of inadvertently tweeting something private for the world to see.  Another thing I really like about sending DMs from the T4BB client is the auto-complete feature.  If you’re sending a new DM (not replying to a DM), just start by typing in the username of the person or organization you are trying to DM and a list will appear that narrows down as you add more letters.  The great part is that you don’t even need to include the @ sign at the beginning.  There are some really cool features for DMs that are specific to BlackBerry, but I’m going to cover that in the BlackBerry integration section.

I’ll admit, of these last three features I’m going to discuss, the ‘Find People’ feature is the only one I really use heavily.  The Find People tab contains just what you’d expect, a search bar that allows you to look up the people or organizations you wish to follow.  Once you complete your search and find what you’re looking for, you simply highlight the name of the person/organization and choose whether to follow or block them.  The general Search tab is also very straightforward.  You type in your search terms and do whatever you want with the results.  In the example picture above, I typed in PhoneDog and received a variety of different results, which probably could have kept me busy for a few hours.  The last tab on the far right hand side of the navigation bar is Popular Topics.  Most of the popular topics are in the form of hashtags.  There are two sub-tabs within the Popular Topics tab—current and recent topics.  The current topics tab contains topics that are currently in use, and the recent tab contains topics that have been discussed in the not-so-distant past.  Interestingly, the recent tab is setup in somewhat of a cloud format with topics arranged in no particular order and text in various colors and sizes.

BlackBerry Integration

Integration into BlackBerry’s familiar message folder is perhaps one of the best features of T4BB.  As you can see from the pictures above, anytime you receive a tweet, mention, or DM, a notification appears in the folder.  In the app itself there are notifications settings that allow you to determine what type of notifications you wish to have appear in your message folder.  Just check the box next to each type of notification to customize how you want to receive your Twitter notifications.  For mentions and tweets, you’ll receive only one notification in your inbox no matter how many you have (though, if you look at the top of the screen, just like the number of messages in your inbox, there’s a Twitter icon with a number next to it representing how many message you have waiting for you).  For DMs, you receive them just like you would emails, and they’re push too.  The moment someone DMs you, you can expect to receive the message seconds later.  DMs are different than tweets and mentions, though, in that you’ll receive one notification per DM.  Another great feature when it comes to DMs is that you can reply directly from your inbox.  If you look at the picture above on the right, you’ll see that the background of my message folder is grayed out and a tweet box has appeared for me to reply to the DM I received from Taylor.

Here are a few more of the features that have been integrated into T4BB:

• Camera and photo gallery integration
• Browser integration for Tweeting links

I’m not going to go into much depth regarding these features but recommend you explore them yourself.  Basically, like many things BlackBerry, with the above features you will find new menu options when exploring photos and websites, and will have the option to tweet links and pictures from various places other than just the T4BB app.

Conclusion

Twitter for BlackBerry, which is currently still in public beta, is an impressive, well-rounded application for BlackBerry devices (though I can only speak for the Bold 9700).  It offers every feature that you’ll find on Twitter’s website, as well as features that are specific to the BlackBerry platform.  As a BlackBerry user myself, I was impressed with how easy it was to navigate the app using the blackberry shortcuts that I’m already used to.  This is great for consumers who aren’t well versed in multiple platforms, but have become accustomed to using a few key shortcuts within the BlackBerry ecosystem, it will make them feel right at home.  The ability to use shortcuts such as ‘t’ and ‘b’ to jump to the top and bottom of a screen is a BlackBerry trademark, and I would have expected no less from this app.  Finally, you  must remember that this app is still in public beta.  Unfortunately, there are several bugs which mostly turn up when you’re trying to update a status or retweet something.  Most commonly I received error messages such as “Twitter has encountered a problem,” or the infamous “loading” page that never actually loaded.  In time, I expect these kinks will be worked out, but for the time being they can add a lot of unnecessary frustration to the T4BB experience.  Frustration aside, I still highly recommend this application because when there aren’t any errors, it truly does run like a dream.  I hope you will try it out for yourself, I’m quite sure you won’t be disappointed.

German Internet entrepreneurs have a new friend — Hanse Ventures, a Hamburg-based Internet incubator that has been co-founded by Jochen MaaB, founder of Internet marketing firm, artaxo and Sarik Weber, formerly of XING and co-founder of Cellity. The founding share holders of the new investment group are publishing house Gruner+Jahr’s Chairman Dr. Bernd Kundrun and Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment.

Weber and MaaB are responsible for the operational aspect of Hanse, which already has taken stakes in eight Internet start-ups. These include Carmio, a price comparison engine for auto parts and HochzeitsPlaza.de, a online wedding portal. Hanse Ventures plans to add between 6-to-8 start-ups every year for next three years to its portfolio. The start-ups are getting the usual physical infrastructure along with other services such as design, programming and online-marketing.

While Germany has become known for spawning “copy cat” start-ups that imitate the business models of some of the more successful US web companies, Weber tells us that the new group is focused on companies with original ideas. Hanse Ventures is part of a growing trend — several groups are trying to build a new start-up ecosystem that allows web upstarts cheaply develop ideas and products.

Lindsay Binegar started earning by raising hogs at their family farm in Highland County when she was 4 years old. After many years of saving, she had enough money to buy a $40000 house.

Lindsay Binegar is a Greenfield teenager who has been saving money since she was 4 years old. She won $100 showing a hog. She’s been saving her earnings from 4-H competitions since then.

The first time Lindsay bought something with her earnings was at the age of 14, when she bought a purse. The money she saved from the competitions would be intended for her schooling. But her parents give her a deal, they will pay for her schooling, if she stays at home and go to college.

She agreed and decided to just buy a house instead. Now that she’s 18, she bought a $40000 house with four-bedrooms, two-bathrooms with a two-car garage and she paid it in cash.

Her uncle and aunt rents the house for $450-a-month. Lindsay said she wanted to save enough money to buy her personal home with her 22-year-old fiance, Heath McNeal after they get married next year.

Lindsay is currently a freshman student at Ohio University’s Chillicothe branch.

Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted was cooked in London. I always knew that the British loved Indian cuisine and that they once held governance over India. What I didn’t know was that curry was introduced to Indian cuisine by the Brits. (Just a little fun fact to chew on.)

In countries like India where traditional cultures are thousands of years old, there are deep traditions of cooking daily meals with medicinal roots and herbs. These herbs act as preventive measures for sustaining good health, and prevention is the cornerstone of India’s traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Turmeric is one such medicinal root that has made its way into a vast number of Indian recipes. Aside from your standard chicken or goat curries, there is a whole list of Indian dishes that contain flavorful thermogenic ingredients like cardamom, coriander, ginger, cloves, chili and turmeric. Not only are the recipes tasty, the ones containing turmeric are especially healthful.

Research by Sarker and his colleagues notes turmeric’s powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and antioxidant properties. Moreover, the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have this to say: “Laboratory and animal research has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties of turmeric and its constituent curcumin.”

It is true that inflammation is a natural response your body has to potentially damaging stimuli. Catch a cold or sprain an ankle and the immune system kicks in and produces swelling to guard while healing takes place. But often the body does not know how or when to stop the inflammation and this causes too much fibrin in the tissues that can lead to pain and stiffness. If left untreated, it can become a chronic health issue.

Unlike aspirin or ibuprophen, turmeric’s curcumin reduces inflammation naturally, without damaging the liver or kidneys. It has been found especially helpful in treating conditions like arthritis, sports injuries, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, tendonitis and various autoimmune diseases. Some research even suggests that curcumin may also help those suffering asthma, inflammatory bowel disease and yes, even cancer.

Since turmeric’s curcumin component is an anti-inflammatory as well as an antioxident agent, it has been used for treating wounds, digestive disorders, liver issues, arthritis and in the prevention of cancer. Statistics also show that Asian children experience less incidence of leukemia than their Western counterparts and it seems a diet rich in turmeric may be the reason why.

Recent studies show that rats that were prone to multiple sclerosis developed very few if any symptoms after being given curcumin. The journal Science reported in their April 23, 2004, issue that curcumin has countered the genetic damage that leads to the lung disorder cystic fibrosis in mice test subjects. It was also shown that curcumin protects against alcohol’s damaging affects on the liver as well as harmonizing the stomach and digestion.

Thousands of scientific articles on the efficacy of curcumin are found within the NIH and NLM’s PubMed MEDLINE database. These show curcumin to be effective in the treatment of inflammation, wounds, cancer, heart disease and as a preventive measure against arthritis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), neurological diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, type-2 diabetes, cataracts, cystic fibrosis, scleroderma and many others.

As if that list were too small, as reported in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Therapies, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service lists nearly 80 biologic activities associated with curcumin, from anti-HIV to anti-ulcerogenic actions.

My advice: Everyone enjoy Indian food containing turmeric at least once a week as a symptomatic and preventive measure.

The newly unveiled Kerry-Lieberman energy and climate bill has evoked strong emotions, with both supporters and opponents racing to issue statements explaining their positions.

The bill has the backing of the White House and of nuclear and alternative energy groups. For example, the Nuclear Energy Institute commended the proposed legislation for what it says are the provisions designed to strengthen the role that nuclear energy has in expanding domestic energy sources, reducing the emission of air pollutants and creating jobs.

Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE) expressed a similar sentiment, but its representatives stated that they were still concerned about the bill’s ideas for oil savings.

"How effective is this or any bill in stemming our nation’s dangerous dependence on oil?" asked SAFE President and CEO Robbie Diamond, adding that the only way to end America’s dependence on oil is to sever the relationship between oil and transportation.

"The best way to do so is by utilizing electricity, which represents a stable, domestic, clean source of power that is generated from a diverse portfolio of fuels," he stated.

In a sign of how difficult this may be politically, the American Trucking Associations (ATA) said it cannot support the American Power Act because they believe it will raise the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel without significantly reducing the output of carbon dioxide. As such, it will act as a "hidden tax" on transportation, ATA said.

The Obama administration’s newly passed healthcare reform bill could potentially cost $115 billion more than originally anticipated in its first 10 years of implementation, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said last week.

Officials with the organization indicated that the modifications to the bill’s price tag are due to previously uncounted discretionary spending, including $34 billion for community health centers and $39 billion for Indian healthcare, The Associated Press (AP) reports. The revised figure also takes into account $10 billion to $20 billion in administrative costs for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Health and Human Services.

If Congress approves the discretionary spending in the bill, nearly all of the cost savings touted by the CBO in March would be eliminated.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said the new analysis of the bill "provides ample cause for alarm."

"The American people wanted one thing above all from health care reform: lower costs, which Washington Democrats promised, but they did not deliver," he added. "These revelations widen the serious credibility gap President Obama is facing."

Meanwhile, Kenneth Baer, spokesman for the White House budget agency, said that the president would make sure to offset any additional discretionary spending with cuts to other domestic programs to keep costs stable.

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) said last week that he is disappointed with the "false" information that President Obama is spreading about Arizona’s new immigration law.

While being interviewed by Fox News, McCain criticized a statement recently made by the president, and indicated that Obama is partially responsible for creating the cloud of negativity that is surrounding the state of Arizona, Politico.com reports.

"We all know what happens in Arizona when you don’t have ID," the president said earlier in the week. "Adios, amigos!"

McCain, who strongly supports the new law that grants authorities the right to question anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant, told the news source that Obama’s comments were "outrageous."

"That is totally falsifying the law passed in Arizona, which calls for reasonable suspicion… as to whether [someone is] in the country illegally, and it specifically outlaws racial profiling," McCain said.

"I know it’s outrageous for the President of the United States to portray a law passed in a state and falsifying exactly what that law says, especially when it has to do with a racial issue which obviously ignites things," he added.

The senator also said that the Los Angeles City Council, which recently passed sanctions to bar the city from conducting business with Arizona, should redirect their frustration toward the Federal government, which has yet to effectively secure California’s borders.

Attention Android fans: LG’s first Android handset, the Ally is now available for pre-order from Verizon. It will hit stores May 20th. This phone can be yours for $99.99 with a new 2 year contract. Not a bad price at all.

Movie buffs may be interested to know that this phone comes with the ability to download a special Iron Man 2 app. The app features augmented reality and never before seen movie clips. Pretty neat.
