  • Facebook Like Extension Lets you “Like” any Webpage From Google Chrome

Facebook recently switched from “Become a Fan” to “Like” feature which has received mixed reactions from the audience. But if you want to “Like” any webpage quickly from the browser window and without logging in to Facebook, the Facebook Likes Google Chrome extension might help.

The extension solves two purposes. First, you can share any webpage with your Facebook friends right from Google Chrome. There is no need to copy links, titles, images and paste them in the status update text box. Just hit the “Like” button and the story is shared on your Facebook wall.

The second advantage is that the extension also shows recent related activity from other Facebook users. This does not necessarily mean your Facebook friends, but shows the content which other users are sharing on Facebook. This is a nice way to figure out which stories are getting the votes and which topic is getting the buzz right now.

To use the extension, click on the “Thumbs up” button placed just right of the address bar as shown below:

The story will be shared with your Facebook friends and you can also see what your friends are “Liking”. Please note the extension does nothing if you are not logged in to Facebook.

    Techie Buzz Verdict

The Facebook Like extension for Chrome is the simplest way to “like” any webpage from the browser. One addition would have been perfect – store the username and password in the extension options and share the story, even if you are not logged in to Facebook.

Techie Buzz rating: 3.5 (very good).

  • More Than 100 Million Windows 7 Licences Sold in 6 Months

Windows-7-Touch-Pack We all know that Windows 7 has been selling like hot cakes since its release. However, the exact volume was up for debate. Now, Microsoft has revealed that so far more than 100 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold.

“To put that in context, more than 10% of all PCs worldwide are already running Windows 7 today. That’s amazing!”, wrote Brandon LeBlanc, in the Windows 7 Team blog.

Nevertheless, Windows XP is still proving to be immensely sticky. According to Net Applications, 64.5% PCs are still on the decade old operating system, while only about ten percent are on Windows Vista.

Riding on the back of strong Windows 7 sales, Microsoft’s net profit for the previous quarter soared to $4.01 billion.

  • Beijing 2010: Geely Emgrand GT plug-in hybrid coupe

Geely Emgrand GT – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Geely Emgrand GT is another example of the automaker’s apparent seriousness about being considered a top-flight player in the industry. This coupe features classic sports car proportions and aside from the overdone grille, it looks quite attractive. The GT comes from Geely’s new top-level Emgrand sub-brand and boasts some impressive specs. It’s reportedly a plug-in hybrid with a 2.4-liter inline-four that churns out 160 horsepower and 165 pound-feet on its own.

That output is supplemented by a pair of 27.5-kilowatt hub motors that give the GT all-wheel-drive capability. Those motors each add 132 foot-pounds of torque as well. It’s not clear, however, which axle is being driven by the combustion engine and which gets the motors. The Emgrand GT is targeted for a 2014 introduction.

  • How a car engine works ?

How a car engine works ?

First things first, the car engine is an internal combustion engine, of which there are a number of different types, including the diesel engine, petrol engine, rotary engine and two-stroke engine.

The internal combustion engine runs on the basic premise of injecting a tiny amount of high energy fuel, for example petrol or diesel, in a small enclosed space, igniting it and creating a massive amount of energy in the form of an expanding gas.

The trick the internal combustion engine pulls off is setting off explosions like this hundreds of times over a minute and managing to harness the energy that is thus created. Almost all cars use a four stroke combustion cycle to convert petrol into motion, the four strokes being – intake, compression, combustion and exhaust.

At the beginning of the cycle, the piston starts at the top, once the intake valve opens, the piston moves down, letting the engine take in a cylinder full of air into which is also injected a drop of petrol.

The piston then moves back up to compress the air with the drop of petrol, the compression will make the explosion that is about to occur all the more powerful. When the piston reaches it’s limit, the spark plug emits a spark which ignites the petrol, causing an explosion thus driving the piston back down.

When the piston it reaches it’s bottom limit, the exhaust valve opens and the exhaust leaves the cylinder, leaving the vehicle by the tailpipe. T

his cycle is then repeated over and over again. The linear motion of the pistons is converted into a rotational motion by the crankshaft which subsequently turns the vehicle’s wheels. So as you may have gathered, the cylinder is one of the core components of the internal combustion engine.

Most cars have four, six or eight cylinders.

  • Next2Me Receives Next Update

When you move to a new area or go out to vacation… finding places to eat or visit becomes a hard task, imagebut this application called Next2Me can help you. The application is a very complicated, easy to use application that uses your GPS to find things around you. It works a little similar to augmented reality on Android devices, but a lot less attractive and intuitive.

In a recent update, the application added some fixes and even brought in some new features:

I recently released version 1.2 of my latest App "Next2Me" to the US Windows Marketplace.

Next2Me uses GPS and shows you all available businesses around you from over 30 categories. You can view the results on a map, show detailed information. You can also call the target business, send the detail information to your friends by Mail or SMS or save the business to your contact list all by only one click!

And here is the latest BETA version of the upcoming Next2Me 1.3.

    [UPDATE]
You can now manually choose between miles and meters. And for all US and Candians, Next2Me is now searching for "Gas stations"

    [UPDATE]
I changed the GPS code a bit because some users get an exception on some devices.

    [UPDATE]
Again changed the GPS device detection.

    [UPDATE 04/25/2010]
    o RC1 released
o Next2Me languages: DE, EN, FR, NL
o A menu to tell Next2Me how to search for your GPS device (this will solve several issues, like the exception told by some users and the unwanted bluetooth dialog which is automatically poping up)

So, have fun with Next2Me and send me your suggestions, critics, etc.

You can download this application in Windows Mobile Marketplace or over at XDA-developers for free.

  • Middle-Aged Women Rule Online Marketplace

Unlike meatspace malls, you can’t scope out the other shoppers when you’re browsing the online aisles. But thanks to this handy infographic from Permuto Discoveries, the truth is out: virtual malls are dominated by middle-aged white women with household incomes of $65K. Yeah, it’s Paramus without the blue laws.

Actually, the real news in the infographic is that, unlike back in the last century, when online shopping was still considered something geeky, it’s now about as mainstream as Costco. Almost 50% of all Americans shop online, and 88% of online shoppers have bought something online in the last six months. Revenue for online merchants is over $34 billion a year, up 500% from the end of the last century.

  • 2010 Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Video Review

    Chevrolet Volt MPV5

The styling of the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept borrows design and aerodynamic cues from the Chevrolet Volt.

The front fascia is among the most aerodynamic of any crossover thanks to its closed grille and aero-optimized lower air dam, both of which help improve fuel efficiency.

A full-underbody belly pan, along with rocker claddings, creased tail lamps and specially designed blades on the rear quarter, also help the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept cut through the wind with ease. The intense focus on improved aerodynamics enables greater all-electric range.

The exterior of the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept isn’t solely about efficiency. Its Sonic Blue Metallic paint provides a contemporary appeal, while the dual skylight panels and 19-inch Volt-inspired wheels build the Chevy Volt MPV5 concept’s sporty credentials.

The Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept’s dimensions provide added passenger comfort. While the 2,760-mm wheelbase of the Volt MPV5 concept is a mere 15 mm longer than the wheelbase of the Chevrolet Volt, its body is 181 mm longer (4,585 mm), 73 mm wider (1,871 mm) and 182 mm taller (1,612 mm) than the Volt.

Inside, the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept adopts the Volt’s center stack and gauge cluster along with its striking two-tone leather seats. Thanks to the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept’s size, passenger comfort doesn’t take a backseat.

Typical for Chevrolet crossovers, the Volt MPV5 concept’s seating position allows for maximum comfort and flexibility, including improved entry and egress.

When it comes to cargo, the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept carries on the crossover tradition thanks to its flip-and-fold second row seating, which provides up to 1,764.1 liters of cargo space with the seats folded and 863.7 liters of space behind the second row.

The Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept utilizes the same Voltec propulsion system found in the Chevrolet Volt, including the added capability of an engine generator to extend the driving range and eliminate “range anxiety.” A 16-kWh T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric drive unit.

The flexibility of the Voltec system enables the Chevy Volt MPV5 concept to meet full vehicle speed and acceleration requirements while driving the vehicle and its five occupants up to 51.5 km on pure electric propulsion. This is double what the average urban commuter in China travels each day. When the battery is depleted, a 1.4-liter engine generator sustains the battery charge and provides up to 482 km of electric propulsion.

GM continues to advance electrification in China through research and development. It has launched the China Automotive Energy Research Center (CAERC) in Beijing. The venture with SAIC and Tsinghua University is developing a comprehensive automotive energy strategy for China.

The GM China Science Lab, which opened last November, is carrying out advanced automotive-related research, including battery development. In March, GM introduced the EN-V (Electric Networked-Vehicle) concepts in Shanghai.

A centerpiece of the SAIC-GM Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai, EN-V embodies GM’s vision for personal urban mobility in 2030. In addition, GM is supporting its Shanghai GM joint venture’s “Drive to Green” strategy, which is focused on developing green products, supporting green manufacturing and undertaking a green responsibility.

While Chrysler has failed to find a way to update or replace the retro-styled PT Cruiser, we can definitely see this as a forthcoming replacement to the Chevrolet HHR. The Volt MPV5 is slightly larger than HHR, but fills a similar market niche.

While Chevrolet hasn’t announced a firm production commitment, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the MPV5 built in both conventional and ER-EV forms to help jack up GM’s light truck CAFE numbers.

The roomy interior will likely find a bigger audience than the smaller Volt while still yielding a 32 mile electric range, and if we had to guess, we’d see the Orlando-inspired plug-in EV hit the market by 2013.

  • Dell roadmap leaks part 2: Netbook and tablet edition

    Sieve! Sieve! Sieve!

Another roadmap slide from Dell has been uncovered by the guys over at Android Central. The three new devices appearing in the slide are a netbook/tablet hybrid (Sparta), a sub 2 pound netbook (Athens), and finally an HD version of the previously leaked Looking Glass tablet.

The Sparta appears to be a new convertible form factor with its screen capable of rotating within the frame. The rest of the specs are fairly standard netbook fare with a 1024 x 768 TFT screen, an Arm processor, Wifi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G. The Sparta is targeted for launch this Fall and could come sporting either Android or Moblin.

The Athens shares the Sparta’s internals, but offers a more traditional netbook body. The sub-2 pound weight is fairly impressive here as Dell’s current 10″ netbook offering comes in at 2.6 pounds, so they’ve added an inch to the screen while shaving over half a pound off the total weight. The Athens is slotted for release in time for the holiday season.

Finally we have the Looking Glass Pro; the “Pro” moniker carries with it an upgraded HD screen resolution and an optional TV tuner, but otherwise it matches up with the already leaked Looking Glass. You’ll probably notice in the slide that the “LG Pro” appears with a dotted line around it unlike the others which may suggest that the Q1 2010 release timeframe is tentative.

The Streak makes an encore appearance in the slides as well with some carrier details. The U.S. release will be this summer on T-Mobile as was suggested by the FCC documents last week. Vodafone will be the carrier of choice in the EU and should also see the Streak this Summer. China’s release will come just a couple months later, with all three major carriers there picking up the device.

As Engadget is quick to point out there are a number of details that point to this being a possibly quite old roadmap so it should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Some of the outdated references include; Bender which was the original name for the Astro File Manager, Windows Mobile rather than Windows Phone 7, and finally Moblin in place of MeeGo.

The Sparta definitely seems to be the wild card in the group; I’m curious to hear what everyone think of that form factor.

    2010 Acura MDX Review

    About Acura
The Acura MDX, or Honda MDX as known in Japan and Australia, is a mid-size crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Acura since the 2001 model year.

The MDX is the first crossover SUV to have third-row seating. It is related to the Honda Pilot.

The alphanumeric moniker stands for “Multi-Dimensional luXury”. It is built by Honda of Canada Manufacturing Ltd. in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. It was introduced in late 2000 as a 2001 model, replacing the slow-selling U.S.-only body-on-frame SLX, based on the Isuzu Trooper.

In Japan, it filled a gap when the Honda Horizon (also based on the Trooper) was discontinued in 1999. In 2003, the Honda MDX went on sale in Japan and Australia. Australian MDXs were all equipped with the 2001-2003 Touring ‘Kiwi’ style wheels and were all equipped with the Rear-Seat DVD entertainment system. Acura is currently creating a crossover to slot above the MDX.

    2010 Acura MDX Overview

The 2010 MDX gets a facelift, adopting Acura’s new “Power Plenum” grille that debuted on its 2009 model year sedans. The most important upgrades to the 2010 model are a new 3.7-liter engine and a new 6-speed SportShift automatic transmission.

An Advance package is now available that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Damper Suspension, 19 inch wheels and tires, Ventilated seats and paddle shifters. Non-navigation equipped MDX models now have a rear view camera monitor located in the rear view mirror.
