Renault-Nissan-Daimler Officially Announce Cooperation on Electric Cars, Smart EV coming in 2013 TNR.v, CZX.v, LMR.v, RM.v, WLC.v, LI.v, CLQ.v, SQM,
This alliance is very important for our EV mass market, Nissan has the most advanced lithium batteries at the moment from NEC which they are going to use in Nissan Leaf and Renault EV models. Daimler with Mercedes is a brand for the luxury car in a lot of markets, EV from Daimler will make it a premium mass market play very fast. Not so long ago Mercedes signed a deal with BYD: they are buying time and access to the markets – the EV game must be taken very seriously now. NEC on its side is very aggressively rumping up production of lithium batteries.“NEC is the lithium-ion batteries suppler for Nissan. After today’s Nissan Leaf announcement on pricing we have another confirmation of a very robust demand for Electric Cars in this pricing range. NEC rumping up batteries production means only one for our Lithium Demand expectations that this bottleneck will be even more crucial for Electric Cars roll out in a mass market fashion – we expect more deals from Japanese trading houses to secure Lithium supply from upcoming developers in the sector.“gas 2.0: -

UK “Digital Economy Bill” May Allow for Website Shutdowns
The House of Commons passed a controversial piece of legislation called the “Digital Economy Bill.” The loudly-criticized law nontheless passed 187-47, according to the Guardian newspaper. The bill purports to provide comprehensive regulation of digital services, in order to clear the way to promoting Britian as a digital econmic power. Criticism focused first on a clause that would have given broad government discretion to the closing of sites. That clause was removed, but the amendment to another was still significantly worrying to some.
From the bill itself, the amendment to clause 8:
“The Secretary of State may by regulations make provision about the granting by a court of a blocking injunction in respect of a location on the internet which the court is satisfied has been, is being or is likely to be used for or in connection with an activity that infringes copyright.”
A little thought on which site might be accused of being “a location on the internet” where copyright violation might have occurred, or might occur in the future, and you’re likely to come up with YouTube, BitTorrent, DailyMotion, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and Google. To start with.
A second criticism focused on the way the troublesome bill was passed, during the period of time just prior to dissolution of parliament, called the “wash-up,” when, to put it mildly, legislator attention is not at its peak.

Obama is a Cowboy

I’ve said I was going to lay off Obama until he had a chance to get settled in the job. I was easy on Bush until Iraq. But, fair is fair. Today, in the NY Times, it was reported that Obama issued a GW Bush like Executive Order calling for the killing of a US Citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki. In effect, an Old West Wanted Poster, Dead or Alive.
I’m disappointed that I have to write this as I believed Obama had some grasp of the meaning of “rule of law” due to his education. But I guess it’s necessary to point out that this order is pretty much equivalent to murder and goes far beyond the powers a Presidential Administration should even think about, yet alone exercise. If this was Bush (I’m beginning to wonder on a number of these types of boneheaded moves if it’s simply a carry forward of the last administration) I would excoriate him for taking such a stance.
Well Mr. Obama, it’s your turn in the barrel. Al-Awlaki is a bad guy, I’ll stipulate that. But independent of his action, he is a citizen and should be accorded due process, charged with Treason perhaps? And then given a chance to defend himself as a citizen of the United States of America. That’s what we’re supposed to stand for. That’s the oath you swore, to defend and uphold the Constitution. You’re failing to do so in this case and if this order were to be carried out, you should face the full force of the law as a consequence.
Do yourself and the rest of the country a favor, stay out of the cowboy business. It’s not befitting a President. Try fulfilling some of your campaign promises: Close Gitmo, Exit Iraq, Wind down Afghanistan, and put some focus on the home front. In case you haven’t noticed, our country could use some attention and leadership…….Back to my vacation. Yuck, I hate this stuff – it sucks to see.

Party Of Delusion, Not Inclusion Intellectual Bankruptcy.
04.07.10 06:59 AM posted by Skip MacLureTheres a lot going on over in the Congress, and not much of it is good news for the DeMarxists and the Obama regimes headlong rush to destroy this country using the economy. It seems that resistance to the administrations policies is reaching new heights.
Many Democrat lawmakers from both Houses are looking at the calendar, and then for which of the bright, young and fresh Conservative challengers is zeroing in on them. What looked like a pretty good year for the Republicans not too long ago, has begun to show indications of being a game changer of historic proportions.
Seems like the RNC in a bunch of states is getting wise in looking for, and recruiting, fresh strongly conservative candidates. All across the country, wherever there is a special election the Democrats are in crisis mode. The mood of the country is ugly and getting uglier. Where theres no special election, theres no less trepidation given the ever decreasing time between now and November. Theres an awful lot of what were solid Democrat seats out there that are now not nearly so safe, and many are in dire peril from aggressive Conservative challenges.
Whats the difference? Its not the RNC, though they jumped aboard the Patriot express and thus far have handled themselves well. The Patriot movement insisted that smaller government, national defense, adherence to the rule of law and the Constitution be the banner that the Conservatives carry into the elections. read more »

The FCC plots their next move
04.07.10 09:29 AMYesterday the FCC was dealt a big blow in their efforts to regulate the Internet. A federal appeals court ruled they do not have the power to regulate web traffic under current law. However, The New York Times reports the FCC will try to circumvent the ruling by the courts and classify the Internet as a public utility. In the short term:

The Liberals Biggest Blind Spot: Who Really Rakes In Their Government Largesse?
On 04.07.10 01:00 PM posted by Terry MillerIn recent days, some blogging friends from the left have commented on the U.S. dropping from free to mostly free in the 2010 Index of Economic Freedom, the Heritage Foundations data driven policy guide.
<ahref="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/06/us-no-longer-a-free-count_n_527072.html?view=print">The Huffington Post picks up on the long-term erosion of economic freedom in which both political parties have been complicit:
Though the analysis of American freedom acknowledges a longer-term trend stretching back to the end of the Bush administration, [the Index] seems to put the lion’s share of blame on the policy initiatives of President Obama
<spanid="more-30772"></span>
Indeed! As reported in the 2010 Index, it was in late 2008, under President Bush, that a threatened financial meltdown triggered some hasty and dangerous Washington policy decisions to bail out large firms. Unfortunately, President Obama has doubled down and more on those policies, with unprecedented levels of government spending, most favoring big finance, big auto companies, big labor unions, and now big pharma and medical insurance companies.
The <ahref="http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2010/04/06/heritage_america_not_free/index.html">blog in the War Room of Salon unfortunately seems to miss the point entirely: Freedom’s just another word for letting corporations do whatever they want. To the contrary, for the editors of the Index, one of the prime reasons to push for economic freedom is to avoid the pernicious tendency for government intervention that sides WITH the interests of big corporations and special interests rather than with the average man or woman. The pattern we see, in the United States and around the world, is government intervention tending to support the interests of those who are already politically and economically powerful. The rhetoric may be populist, but actual government programs almost always favor the status quo. Economic freedom is the antidote, promoting competition, equal treatment for all, and the empowerment of the individual.

START and Beyond: Obama Abandons US Power
On 04.07.10 12:30 PM posted by Ariel Cohen
</p>The New START Treaty that Presidents Obama and Medvedev are going to sign tomorrow in Prague sets the stage for the big show, the April 12-13 non-proliferation summit in Washington. Both events are deeply flawed. Both are theater productions for Obama to push through his unrealistic agenda of “getting to zero”, i.e. attempting to achieve a world without nuclear weapons.
The New START is a déjà vu: in the 1980s, the Soviets threatened to withdraw from existing arms control treaties if US deployed missile defense. Now they are doing it again. Foreign Minister Lavrov is putting <ahref="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/06/AR2010040601800.html">caveats on the New START. Lavrov clearly stated that the Kremlin reserves the right to withdraw from the Treaty if they deem missile defense deployment in Romania threatening.
Why should the US Senate ratify a “conditional” Treaty? If the Treaty is ratified, the US under Obama will not withdraw from it only if the Russians do, thus US would be committing to unilateral Treaty compliance, which may be against its national security interests.<spanid="more-30765"></span>
Moreover, the new Nuclear Posture Review announces that the US will not develop new nuclear weapons. But Russia is doing so, and so are China, India, Pakistan, Iran and North Korea.
Will they stop only because Obama promised not to modernize? Hardly.
And what about missile defense? If the US deploys a more robust missile shield in Europe, as noted above, per Lavrov, Russia may abandon the New START. Experts say that Obama will be unlikely to upgrade missile defenses.
Is keeping the Russians in the New START a good enough reason not to do what is necessary to protect our NATO allies?
Beyond START, the Obama policy has more than a whiff of unreality. It is ambition enveloped in naïveté, wrapped in inexperience.
On April 12, over 40 heads of state will be extras in the Getting to Zero show, featuring Mr. Obama himself. However, the “getting to zero” nuclear policy naively and dangerously ignores the real nature of the world in which we live: Russian and Chinese nuclear modernizations, Iranian and North Korean atomic ambition, Pakistan’s instability, and the threat of nuclear terrorism.
Those who can’t deter, can be attacked.
The strategically flawed Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) is only one Lego block in Obamas non-proliferation agenda. In the future, his Administration will attempt to join the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and limit defense deployments in outer space, giving up a clear US technological edge.
The START and NPR make US allies worry. Offending US allies from Poland to Britain; from Canada to Azerbaijan to Israel; and placating Moscow, Beijing and Teheran, is a dangerous policy which will take years to set straight.
Voluntary abandonment of US power, nuclear and otherwise, may come back to haunt the US and should not be allowed.

Minneapolis – best city in the US
It’s true. Portland has more riders, but weaker facilities.St. Paul doesn’t do as well, but I bet Bicycling lumped us in with the bigger Twin (most mags do).Since I’ve long argued that the best single measure of a city is its bicycling facilities, this means MSP is the best city in the US. -
Google Earth Goes DROID
Google Earth for the Android phone is now available on the Verizon DROID, according to Peter Birch, writing on the Google LatLongBlog. Google Earth for Android launched in early March, but the specific needs of adapting it for Verizon’s phone and service took an extra month.
According to Birch, Google Earth for Android is compatible with most Android devices running 2.1. More Android phones will accommodate Google Earth as they adopt Android 2.1 or higher.
“Google Earth requires hardware floating-point acceleration, so it will run on devices such as DROID and Nexus One, but not on devices such as myTouch 3G and DROID ERIS.”
