  • Michael Bolton Opens Up About Struggles With Career In Telling Interview

Michael…Bolton? Yes, the ACTUAL Michael Bolton, and not a software engineer at Initech, has opened up in a telling interview with Huffington Post. He just so happens to have a biography coming out as well, titled ‘The Soul of it All’.

Bolton opened up during the interview, talking about how he trekked across country in the 60′s at the age of 14. Calls it a miracle that he survived those experiences. Did a large amount of drugs, even claiming to smoke banana peels.

He grew up in a poor family, with his parents divorced. He started getting involved in music at the age of 13-14, after being involved in sports before then.

Received his first record deal at age 16. It took Bolton 18 years after that first deal before he received his first big hit. He said his first record deal felt like he’d signed with the Yankees. One of his early works was writing and producing songs for Cher.

He shows his humorous side, talking about his experience working with The Lonely Island and doing his rendition of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Bolton started out in rock and roll circles. He actually worked with Paul Stanley in one of the first bands he was a part of, called Blackjack. Bolton also reveals his ties with Kanye West, and how he had to ask his daughters who he was before working with him.

He spent a good portion of the interview providing advice to those looking to get into a music career. He says to work with a voice coach, and just continue to work at it. Talent and passion can’t get you as far as you need to and compares it to training for the Olympics.

Bolton even talked about his sex life, with this direct quote form his book, “Unlike Santa, the tooth fairy, and the Easter bunny, sex was real. Soon other girls were more than willing to get naked with me. I was stunned at my luck. I’ll be forever grateful that my first was a patient, kind, gifted, and enthusiastic instructor. Once she’d introduced me to the glories of sex, I realized what I’d been missing in my first precious thirteen years of life. I had to make up for lost time. So I immediately asked when we could do it again”

He then talks about dating stars Nicollete Sheridan and Teri Hatcher.

Bolton then gives his opinion about the current state of music, and talks about his thoughts about Justin Timberlake, and says he could have a Frank Sinatra like career before all is said and done.

And just in case you were wondering what Bolton thinks about Office Space, he’s pushing for Mike Judge to make a sequel and hopes he can star in it.

  • High School QB Drowns Just Weeks Before His Graduation

The end of May is typically filled with smiling, happy high school seniors looking forward to their next step in life, and celebrate graduation. For Southwest Onslow High School, they are left in mourning as one of their own has died, drowning while swimming with friends.

  • 54 Loaded Guns At Airports This Week, TSA Says

There’s nothing travelers like to hear more right before a holiday weekend than a bunch of weapons being confiscated at airports across the country.

The TSA reported that 54 loaded guns were found this week during checks at different airports, along with various other types of weapons. Reportedly, 19 of the guns had rounds chambered. One man was found to have been carrying a loaded gun strapped to his prosthetic leg and was arrested ion a concealed weapons charge.

“Unfortunately these sorts of occurrences are all too frequent which is why we talk about these finds,” the TSA shared in a statement. “Sure, it’s great to share the things that our officers are finding, but at the same time, each time we find a dangerous item, the throughput is slowed down and a passenger that likely had no ill intent ends up with a citation or in some cases is even arrested. The passenger can face a penalty as high as $7,500.00. This is a friendly reminder to please leave these items at home. Just because we find a prohibited item on an individual does not mean they had bad intentions, that’s for the law enforcement officer to decide. In many cases, people simply forgot they had these items.”

Also, apparently people think it’s okay to bring hand grenades on airplanes. Really?

“We continue to find inert hand grenades and other weaponry on a weekly basis. Please keep in mind that if an item looks like a realistic bomb, grenade, mine, etc., it is prohibited – real or not. When these items are found at a checkpoint or in checked baggage, they can cause significant delays in checkpoint screening. I know they are cool novelty items, but you cannot bring them on a plane.”

In other words, travelers, have a nice 3-day weekend and make sure you stow your weapon safely at home before you leave.

  • Michael Clarke Duncan’s Grave Defaced, Artist Claims No Racism Intended

In July 2012, actor Michael Clarke Duncan was taken to a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a heart attack. Duncan was placed in intensive care for weeks before passing away on September 3, 2012 at the age of just 54. His girlfriend at the time of his death, reality TV star Omarosa Manigault, called Duncan the love of her life.

This week, reports surfaced that someone had defaced the Green Mile actor’s grave with a racist image. According to a TMZ report, a friend of Duncan’s visited his grave this week and found a smiley face attached to the grave that looked suspiciously similar to a depiction of a Little Black Sambo.

However, it now appears that the smiley face was not intended as a racist slight against Duncan. LAist is now reporting that the object was left by an artist named Lisa Albanese. Albanese has stated that she did not intend to offend anyone and that she is “in shock and saddened” by the reaction her art has caused. She reportedly routinely leaves the smiley faces at celebrity grave sites and in other places around L.A., as she notes in a Facebook post from 2011.

Duncan was best known for his roles in movies such as The Green Mile, Armageddon, and Daredevil.

  • Fox News: Punch Obama Voters In The Face

After the Justice Department called Fox News reporter James Rosen a “co-conspirator” while investigating a leak about North Korea’s nuclear program last week, Fox News’ Andrea Tantaros had quite a bit to say about the Obama administration.

Tantaros grew angry while talking about the scandal on Thursday’s radio show, commenting on the fact that the Justice Department obtained phone and email records for 7 other journalists during a separate investigation.

“Let me tell you how people and journalists are being treated these days,” she said. “They are being stalked. They are being spied on. In Missouri, a news station fired an anchor who talked about the IRS shakedown. Yeah—fired. This is how corrupt the left is. This is what’s happening to our press. This is Obama’s America. It’s like the Soviet Union. He said he would change the country. He said it … and a lot of people voted for him. And if you see any of those people today, do me a favor and punch them in the face.”

  • Artist Paints Angelina Jolie Nude Mastectomy Portait

Swedish artist Johan Andersson found inspiration in Angelina Jolie’s recent admission that she’d had a preventative double mastectomy after finding out she carries a gene that makes breast cancer highly likely.

Andersson created what is now a highly-controversial portrait of Jolie which depicts her topless after the surgery. He says that having something in common with the actress/ambassador led him to the oil painting.

“My mother had aggressive breast cancer when I was 15, the thought of her having to have a mastectomy really scared me and she was fortunate enough to have surgery without the mastectomy. The recent news about Angelina stirred an anxiety within me leading me to paint this portrait, There is an underlying awkwardness in her demeanour in juxtaposition to the natural beauty of her face.”

Jolie announced earlier this month that she’d secretly undergone the operation after watching her mother suffer through breast cancer, to which she ultimately succumbed.

“My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” Jolie wrote in a New York Times piece.. “She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was. They have asked if the same could happen to me.”

Andersson’s painting is expected to fetch over $20,000 at auction and proceeds will go to the Falling Whistles campaign, a charity Jolie supports for peace in the Congo.

  • Brad Pitt: Face Blindness Makes People Hate Him

Brad Pitt has one of the most memorable faces in the country, but don’t expect him to remember yours should you ever meet the superstar.

Pitt says he’s always had a huge problem remembering faces, even if he’s had a lengthy conversation with someone. It tends to make people angry.

“So many people hate me because they think I’m disrespecting them,” Pitt said in a recent Esquire interview. “I took one year where I just said, This year, I’m just going to cop to it and say to people, ‘OK, where did we meet?’ But it just got worse. People were more offended. …You get this thing, like, ‘You’re being egotistical. You’re being conceited.’ But it’s a mystery to me, man. I can’t grasp a face, and yet I come from such a design/aesthetic point of view. I am going to get it tested.”

Carnegie Mellon University has invited Pitt to be tested, in fact, and put out a press release about it:

“Carnegie Mellon is one of the very few places that can both test for face blindness and perform the brain imaging in our state-of-the-art imaging center,” the statement read.

The actor has been getting quite a few headlines this week; after the interview came out, excerpts were leaked online in which he talked about how he felt like he was “drifting” through life during the time he was married to Jennifer Aniston. However, he has also said he blames himself for the feelings and called Aniston “an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman.”

  • Obama Forgot to Salute, Apologized to Soldier

President Barack Obama has certainly had a lot on his mind recently. House Republicans have recently been holding hearings on the Benghazi attacks, while two new scandals have rocked the current administration. One involves the IRS targeting new tax-exempt Tea Party-affiliated groups for additional scrutiny, while the other involves the Justice Department’s seizure of journalist’s phone records as part of a leak investigation.

It’s no surprise, then, that simple etiquette slipped the U.S. president’s mind this week.

A video of the President boarding boarding Marine One went viral this week. In it, Obama can be seen striding confidently into the helicopter- bypassing the U.S. marine stationed at the helicopter’s entrance without so much as a nod. It is traditional for presidents to salute soldiers as they board.

As seen in the video, the President quickly realized his mistake and doubled back to apologize to the soldier:

What makes the gaffe slightly ironic is that the President was on his way to the U.S. Naval Academy to speak at a graduation ceremony. During his address, Obama praised the U.S. military, calling it “the most trusted institution in America.”

Despite the Obama administration’s recent bad press, the President’s approval ratings remain high. Americans polled recently did state, however, that issues such as the IRS scandal are important to them.

Obama will have a chance to take is mind off of things in late summer, when he is expected to join First Lady Michelle Obama and the couple’s two daughters for a vacation on Martha’s Vineyard.

  • Misfit Wearables Drops Android Support For Its Shine Activity Tracker Ahead Of Summer Launch

    misfit-android

Heads up, Android fans. If you took the plunge and backed the rather sleek Shine wearable activity tracker from Misfit Wearables, you may want to get your money back. According to a recent update posted to the project’s Indiegogo listing, the Founders Fund-backed company has decided to drop Android support from the final version in a bid to better focus on polishing the experience for iOS users.

Seriously, that’s the only reason they gave, which is likely little consolation to the backers who were originally told that the Shine would support certain devices running Android 4.1 and up when the thing officially launched. But let’s back up a moment first — in case you haven’t been following the Misfit Wearables odyssey, the Redwood City/Vietnam startup aimed to inject some style into the world of personal activity tracking with the $99, quarter-sized Shine doodad that could seamlessly sync your motion information to a slew of supported smartphones. It’s not entirely unlike what you would do with a Jawbone Up or a Fitbit, except that the hardware involved was designed to be as unobtrusive as possible — a welcome quality for a device you’re meant to wear all day long.

There’s no firm count on how many Android users wound up backing the project, but I’d wager there’s a decent chunk of them considering that the project raised more than eight times the $100,000 funding goal the team was originally shooting for. For what it’s worth, the decision seems to have been made fairly recently — a response on the Misfit Wearables Facebook page posted on May 8 confirmed to one fan that the team intended to have Android support ready for the masses when the Shine officially launches in July.

That said, the team has been working on the Shine Android app for at least a few months now, and they provided a first glimpse at the app in the form a of a render (see above) before ultimately putting it on the back burner. I’ve reached out to Misfit to see if they would clarify the issues they’ve been having on the Android front, and I’ll update if/when they respond.

Sad to say it’s hardly the first time a purveyor of fitness gadgets has decided to drop support for Google’s mobile operating system. Despite claiming that an Android version of its FuelBand syncing app was in the works for the better part of summer 2012, Nike unceremoniously pulled the plug on the project earlier this year noting that it would instead focus on building out the Fuel experience for iOS and the web.

  • Will The Xbox One Rule The Living Room? Price Will Determine The Size Of Its Kingdom

    XboxD_Logo_Consle_Sensr_controller_F_GreenBG_RGB_2013

The Xbox One is more or less a known quantity now, but its price has yet to be revealed by Microsoft. Price and ship date are always the biggest concerns when new gadgets or hardware hits the market, but in the case of the Xbox One, it’s likely to help determine whether the “home entertainment system,” as Microsoft is characterizing it, becomes the category-busting, revolutionary multi-purpose living room command center it’s being billed as, or ends up just another console with niche appeal that makes it a target of lust for core gamers, but few outside that circle.

The Xbox One continues what Microsoft started with the Xbox 360, building in plenty of non-gaming services, apps and tools that could appeal to a broad range of audiences, including sports fans, and people who just generally enjoy media content of all stripes. The Kinect interaction potential looks to be able to provide pretty extensive feedback for athletes and people training, and its new voice recognition tricks offer a chance at a completely revamped way of interacting with the television. Microsoft also looks to be courting partners for a la carte TV content delivery, which is a huge potential alternative market to traditional cable and satellite providers.

New features of the Xbox One are clearly designed to cast a wider net and rope in people who might not care all that much about games, but price will determine whether Microsoft actually lands those customers, or whether the Xbox One remains a gaming machine first, which just happens to provide gamers with a number of other benefits besides.

Rumors have pegged the new Xbox One pricing at anywhere from less than the initial cost of the Xbox 360 and PS3 (each was around $350 U.S.), to $770 (likely a high guess to prevent sticker shock later on) as it has been listed on Amazon Germany, to anything in between. A gap of just a couple hundred dollars could make all the difference here: users who aren’t so interested in the gaming aspects have plenty of options now for over-the-top services from providers including Apple, Google and Roku, all of which offers similar access to custom content, if not the unique interaction methods and Snap multi-information streams of the Xbox One. And most of those are available for around $100 or less, which will have a significant impact on buyer choice.

It’s possible that what Microsoft wants is to append a layer on top of live TV, similar to what Google initially attempted with Google TV, as our columnist Tadhg Kelly suggested in his column earlier today. But I think Microsoft is doing much more feeling out with the Xbox One, with a variety of services and a focus that could easily shift depending on where consumers take it. But getting them there in the first place involves either pricing the console right, or demonstrating irrefutably that the value added by the console and its services make up for a steep premium over other alternatives.

I’m not convinced Microsoft has the guts to price the Xbox One where it needs to be to truly start breaking down device category walls, but we’ll see if they surprise us when they talk price, which could happen as early as E3 next month.

  • More sources say Intel Atom to power Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3

Intel has scored a mobile win with Samsung and will power at least one Galaxy tablet in the near future says VentureBeat. The site’s sources on Saturday confirmed our own reports from earlier this week when benchmarks of an Intel-powered Galaxy Tab appeared online. There could be several tablet variants from Samsung and others could use Samsung’s own chip.

Intel Atom Z2760Even if Intel powers just one Android tablet made by Samsung, it would be big for the Intel Atom team. Since debuting the Atom chip five years ago, it has typically been used in low-end PCs such as netbooks. Over the past year, Intel managed to get Atom silicon inside a few smartphones, but none of those devices have gone on to be major sales hits. The chip does power Windows 8(msft) tablets as well.

In this case, Samsung is one of the top Android tablet makers, giving Intel a chance to prove its Atom has the right blend of power and efficiency to compete in the growing mobile market.

I noted earlier this week that Samsung could be considering the move in order to keep its Exynos chips available for higher demand devices such as the Galaxy S 4 smartphone:

“So why would Samsung, which makes it own chips for smartphones and tablets, consider an Intel inside its newest Galaxy Tab? Samsung could be keeping the Exynos for its own handsets, such as the new Galaxy S 4, because it sells more handsets than tablets. The company’s tablets wouldn’t like suffer any performance hit by using Intel’s silicon either; at least not if the early benchmarks are valid.”

The timing of a potential Intel Atom design win is a little surprising to me. The company will debut the next generation of Atom chips called Silvermont in the second half of this year, promising three times the computing power or five times the power efficiency of the current Atom processors.
