The company said the Eeco represents the growing expertise of Maruti Suzuki engineers to develop vehicles in India, which is also in line with parent Suzuki Motor Corporation’s vision of turning India into a global hub for small car design.
The Eeco comes with a flexi design offering 7 seater and five seater options.
The company also said it will be unveiling a concept electric version of the Eeco, named Eco Charge, which has been developed by the Maruti Suzuki engineers.
The car would be showcased in the Commonwealth Games.
Eeco – power and fuel efficiency

The 1200 cc engine offers 73 bhp @ 6000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 10.4 kgm @ 3000 rpm. 73 bhp should be enough when the Eeco is used as a five-seater – but as a 7-seater, we have our doubts.

Fuel efficiency is a claimed 15.6 kmpl, very good for a petrol engined MPV.

Not a bad deal. We laughed when we heard the name for the first time, but at this price, Maruti might possibly have the last laugh.

The Eeco would be available in both 5-seater and 7-seater options. The price of the AC version will cost Rs 2.89 lakhs while the 7-seater Eeco will be priced Rs 2.75 lakhs.

There will also be an electric Eeco some time in the future – the company displayed one at the Auto Expo, but no time-frame is given for the same. An Eeco CNG would also be launched in due course.

As far as looks go, we don’t think it matters much to the segment the Eeco is targeting. The bumpers are now different and better looking, headlights have changed, and the high roof has vanished. But it is unmistakeably a Versa, still.

You also get one-piece seats like in the Nano or the Hyundai i10, dual tone interiors, flat loading bay, tubeless tyres and six colours.

At this price, it is possible that Maruti Suzuki can finally start phasing out the Omni, its most basic vehicle in India.

Michael Scott points us to an article at CircleID that appears to be little more than a disguised press release for a company pitching “brand protection service,” suggesting that registrars and ISPs need to crack down on illegal online pharmacies and drug trafficking or face legal consequences. While the analysis is correct that trademark violations are a loophole not protected by CDA section 230 safe harbors, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a registrar or ISP is automatically liable for hosting such a site. The whole point of section 230 is to make sure that liability is properly placed on the user, rather than the service/tool provider. That should stand even without section 230 protections. You can’t just blame a third party because they’re easier to find. The article seems to imply that if anyone complains about a trademark in a domain name, registrars and ISPs should automatically shut down that site — but that would create serious problems. The real issue here is a serious loophole in safe harbor protections when it comes to trademarks. The answer shouldn’t be a moral panic for registrars and ISPs, but to close the loophole and harmonize the various safe harbor provisions.

Bharat IV emission norms will be passed by the new car Eeco. The car will be under C segment according to industry sources. It will have 1196ccc engine which produce 73bhp of raw power at 6000rpm and a high torque of 101Nm@3000rpm.

The 2010 International CES witnessed the unveiling of iGo’s environmentally friendly universal charger power saving product. The recent retirements of two veteran Democratic senators and the decision by two Democratic gubernatorial candidates to drop their bids could prompt more in the party to head for the exits and further frighten already skittish donors and activists. But it doesn’t yet appear that the party’s congressional majorities are threatened.

Republicans are poised to make major gains in the House and the Senate, but the number of seats necessary to reclaim the majority makes it unlikely that they could knock the Democrats out of power in either chamber. 

To win the control of the House, Republicans must win 40 seats in November. And to reclaim the Senate, they must pick up 11 seats. The math is harder than it looks.

The mice with dementia were found to have equal memory and thinking skills as their dementia-free peers. In some cases, their lack of memory disappeared after exposure to the electro-magnetic waves. It took just months for the results to come out with the mice, but the researchers expect the process to take years with humans.

Which probably explains why those paragons of virtue and forces for good, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and the rest, want to tie us into three year contracts. It’s to save our lives, stupid.

Sony has taken a step towards environment friendly products by the showcasing of its new Sony Vaio W Series Eco-Edition laptops. The company has made a stand and has saved about a thousand trees by not printing a user manual for this Vaio. The Vaio W Series Eco-Edition laptop has its body made out of 80% recycled materials, 20% of which is obtained from recycled CD’s and DVD’s. The 10.1 inch display with an LED backlight is free from harmful mercury and is more efficient than the usual lamp technology used.

All this and the energy saving Intel Atom processor has helped certify this Vaio with an Energy Star 5.0. The laptop’s bag outer fabric is made out of 100% recycled PET bottles and is used instead of the traditional cardboard box.

The Eco –Edition Sony Vaio W Series may be a let down due to its lack of video acceleration. Also, it will burn a $530 hole in your pocket and is available only in Sony Style stores. These shortcomings aside, this Vaio makes a difference in the computing world with its efforts to go green.

He said Ford will be announcing its support for the next version of Sync, and that Fiat has sold 1 million cars with the Eco:drive software. And he said Microsoft and Kia are doing Uvo, a car platform that will be launched later in the year. He said the Zune is getting great reviews

In Mobile, he said there are new and exciting Windows phones coming to market every month, but said the company would have more to talk about Windows Mobile next month at the Mobile World Congress show.

And of course, he talked about how Windows 7 has been very well accepted. He said Windows 7 was the work of 3,000 Microsoft engineers, 50,000 partners, and 8 million beta tests. He said Windows PC sales were up more than 50 percent year over year; and that Windows 7 was the fastest selling OS in history. He said there are more than 1400 Windows 7 models out, and more than 4 million Windows applications, including 800,000 specifically written for Windows 7.

The San Jose Mercury has an article on opposition to a solar power proposal that seems as well sited as you could get – World’s largest solar project prompts environmental debate.

Panoche Valley is known mostly for cattle and barbed wire, a treeless landscape in eastern San Benito County that turns green every spring but for much of the year looks like rural Nevada.

A posse of lawmen gunned down the famous Gold Rush bandit Joaquin Murrieta, an inspiration for the fictional character Zorro, near here in 1853. Nothing that exciting has happened since.

But now the remote valley 25 miles south of Hollister is finding itself at the center of a new showdown. A Silicon Valley company is proposing to build here what would be the world’s largest solar farm — 1.2 million solar panels spread across an area roughly the size of 3,500 football fields.

“This is renewable energy. It doesn’t cause pollution, it doesn’t use coal or foreign oil, and it emits no greenhouse gases,” said Mike Peterson, CEO of Solargen Energy, the Cupertino company behind the $1.8 billion project.

But critics — including some environmentalists — say green energy isn’t always green. In a refrain being heard increasingly across California, they contend the plan to cover this ranch land with a huge solar project would harm a unique landscape and its wildlife.

From the Bay Area to the Mojave Desert, green energy supporters are frustrated that a state that wants to lead the green revolution is facing roadblocks.

Peterson, a former vice president of Goldman Sachs, looked across the Panoche Valley last week and noted its attributes.

It sits 20 miles from the nearest town. It has 90 percent of the solar intensity of the Mojave Desert. Five willing sellers, mostly longtime ranching families, have signed options to sell his company 18,000 acres. And huge transmission lines run through the site, negating the need to build the kind of costly and controversial new power lines that have stalled similar projects. “From our standpoint, this is a perfect place,” he said. “If not here, where?”

The project would produce 420 megawatts of electricity, roughly the same as a medium-sized natural gas power plant, and enough to power 315,000 homes.

Meanwhile, in the UK, transmission line costs are provided added friction to getting offshore wind and tidal power projects underway – Wave of protest over tidal power charges.

Plans to build Europe’s biggest wave farm off the coast of Scotland are under threat after energy firms threatened to pull out over “unfair” charges to connect to the national grid, a lobby group has claimed.

The Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) said that some of the 20 firms involved in the project, in the Pentland Firth, have said that they may withdraw in protest at the charges imposed by Ofgem, the energy regulator.

Under the charging scheme, electricity generators are forced to pay more the farther away they are from the national grid and urban centres.

According to the council — an independent body that represents 1,200 businesses, trade unions and local authorities — Scottish generators pay about 40% of total UK transmission charges, but produce just 12% of the country’s renewable energy. It claims they pay £100m a year more than their “fair share”.

The threat of firms pulling out will be a blow to Alex Salmond, who has claimed that the farm could transform the Pentland Firth into “the Saudi Arabia of marine power”. The first minister used his new-year message to call for a cut in connection charges, which he claimed were preventing Scotland from becoming the “energy powerhouse of Europe”.

The SCDI has raised its concerns in a policy report for ministers that urges Ofgem to consider a flat-rate scheme, irrespective of location.

“Wave and tidal companies involved in the Pentland Firth process face higher generation costs than established technologies such as onshore wind,” the SCDI submission states. “They have emphasised that without projects remaining viable they will not proceed and the locational charging regime could destroy viability.”

Gareth Williams, the head of policy at the SCDI and author of the report, added: “We are concerned that higher charges are proposed for renewables projects in Scotland where there are the best resources. Onshore wind projects already face far higher transmission charges and members in the marine energy industry have warned that higher connection charges will become a disincentive for investment in developing offshore wind, wave and tidal projects in Scotland.”
