{"id":101551,"date":"2009-12-17T22:11:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-18T03:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587346.post-4767253938548863239"},"modified":"2009-12-17T22:36:37","modified_gmt":"2009-12-18T03:36:37","slug":"googles-iq-boost-is-only-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/101551","title":{"rendered":"Google&#8217;s IQ boost is only beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AltaVista\">AltaVista<\/a> was really pretty useful (it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altavista.com\/\">still around<\/a> &#8211; owned by Yahoo! now), but the first time I used Google, in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faughnan.com\/fp\/net\/altavista.html\">early 1999, I knew AltaVista was histor<\/a>y.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It&#8217;s been almost 11 years since that day, and my brain&#8217;s been following the usual middle aged fail. On the other hand, Google <a href=\"http:\/\/googlesystem.blogspot.com\/2009\/12\/instant-answers-in-google-suggest.html\">keeps getting smarter<\/a>. So my brain + Google isn&#8217;t doing as badly as my brain alone.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Take yesterday, for example. I asked Google for help with an esoteric Excel problem, and <a href=\"http:\/\/tech.kateva.org\/2009\/12\/using-excel-matrix-operations-to-sum.html\">it told me how to use matrix operations to sum a range of inverted numbers<\/a>. I didn&#8217;t even know Excel <i>had<\/i> matrix operators.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It took minutes to answer that problem, and to acquire a new set of skills. There&#8217;s no way I could have answered the problem 10 years ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even though Google has its <a href=\"http:\/\/paul.kedrosky.com\/archives\/2009\/12\/dishwashers_dem.html\">weaknesses<\/a> (see <a href=\"http:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2009\/12\/17\/gmbmg\">also<\/a>), it&#8217;s only begun to get smart.
