{"id":104800,"date":"2009-12-22T07:22:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-22T12:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9864176.post-8611360972818271810"},"modified":"2009-12-22T07:43:59","modified_gmt":"2009-12-22T12:43:59","slug":"uk-geothermal-power-plant-gets-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/104800","title":{"rendered":"UK Geothermal power plant gets funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even the British seem to be getting enthusiastic about <a href=\"http:\/\/peakenergy.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/geothermia-revisited.html\">geothermal energy<\/a>, with the BBC reporting on a project planned for Cornwall &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/uk_news\/england\/cornwall\/8425272.stm\">Geothermal power plant gets funds <\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Plans to develop the UK&#8217;s first commercial-scale geothermal power station in Cornwall have secured nearly \u00a31.5m of government funding.<\/p>\n<p>The power plant &#8211; using &#8220;hot rocks&#8221; technology &#8211; is to be based at Redruth and would provide electricity and heat for homes and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) has gained the grant from the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The total cost of building the plant will be about \u00a340m.<\/p>\n<p>The power plant will work by pumping water deep underground to be warmed by the earth&#8217;s natural heat and then returned to the surface.
