President Barack Obama on Sunday ordered an urgent review of how US
\nauthorities use terrorist watch-lists to foil attacks on US targets
\nafter a Nigerian tried to destroy a transatlantic passenger aircraft
\nwith an explosive device he smuggled on board.<\/p>\n

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, undergoing treatment for burns
\nsustained in Friday\u2019s abortive attempt on a flight from Amsterdam
\nto Detroit, figured on a US database of people with suspected terrorist
\nconnections but had not been added to a 4,000-name no-fly list. He has
\nbeen charged with trying to blow up the airliner as it was coming in to
\nland.<\/p>\n

Transatlantic air travellers faced delays on Sunday after the US stepped up security requirements for all in-bound aircraft.<\/p>\n

The review of the US system of terrorist watch-lists was \u201cto
\nmake sure there\u2019s no clog in the bureaucratic plumbing\u201d,
\nRobert Gibbs, White House press secretary, said on Sunday.<\/p>\n
