Israel now shares a monstrous distinction with China. It illegally
\nharvests organs from the dead. The former head of Israel\u2019s Abu
\nKabir forensic institute has admitted the ghoulish practice, according
\nto a reported published by The New Zealand Herald<\/a>.
\nAbu Kabir\u2019s forensic pathologists harvested organs from dead
\nbodies, primarily Palestinians, without the permission of their
\nfamilies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Palestinians have feared for many years that Israeli
\nOccupation Forces in the West Bank and Gaza have targeted them for
\norgan harvest.<\/td>\n		<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In August it was reported by Aftonbladet, Sweden\u2019s largest
\ncirculation daily, that Israeli troops killed Palestinians specifically
\nto harvest their organs. The report appeared after an American Jew was
\narrested in the United States for illicit organ trafficking. The story
\nmade news in Israel, where some commentators compared it to medieval
\nlibels that Jews killed Christian children for their blood. Daniel
\nSeaman, who heads Israel\u2019s government press office, said the
\narticle played on \u201cvile anti-Semitic themes,\u201d according to
\nthe Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Swedish newspaper reported that Israeli soldiers targeted Palestinians specifically in order to harvest their organs.<\/p>\n

Journalist Donald Bostrom<\/a>
\nwrote in the article that Palestinians \u201charbor strong suspicions
\nagainst Israel for seizing young men and having them serve as the
\ncountry\u2019s organ reserve \u2013 a very serious accusation, with
\nenough question marks to motivate the International Court of Justice
\n(ICJ) to start an investigation about possible war crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

An Israeli official<\/a>
\ncalled Bostrom\u2019s story \u201chate porn\u201d and the American
\nmagazine Commentary wrote that the story was \u201cmerely the tip of
\nthe iceberg in terms of European funded and promoted anti-Israel
\nhate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is, however, that substantiated evidence of public
\nand private organ trafficking and theft, and allegations of worse, have
\nbeen widely reported for many years. Given such context, the Swedish
\ncharges become far more plausible than might otherwise be the case and
\nsuggest that an investigation could well turn up significant
\ninformation,\u201d writes Alison Weir<\/a>, executive director of If Americans Knew.<\/p>\n

The latest accusation was revealed in connection to the Swedish
\nreport. The former head of Abu Kabir forensic institute, Dr Jehuda
\nHiss, was interviewed in 2000 by an American academic who released the
\ninterview because of the report in Aftonbladet and the denials of the
\nIsraeli government. \u201cWe started to harvest corneas,\u201d Hiss
\ntold the academic. \u201cWhatever was done was highly informal. No
\npermission was asked from the family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019d glue the eyelid shut,\u201d Hiss added. \u201cWe
\nwouldn\u2019t take corneas from families we knew would open the
\neyelids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s Channel 2 TV aired parts of the interview over the weekend.<\/p>\n

In addition to corneas, skin, heart valves, and bones were taken
\nfrom the bodies of Israeli soldiers, Israeli citizens, Palestinians and
\nforeign workers, often without permission from relatives.<\/p>\n

Hiss also said skin was taken from the backs of dead Palestinians<\/a>
\nand the families of the dead never discovered the theft because they
\ndid not examine the bodies before burial. Muslim custom dictates that
\nthe deceased be buried as soon as possible after death, avoiding the
\nneed for embalming or otherwise disturbing the body.<\/p>\n

After the interview aired on television, the Israeli military admitted the macabre practice.<\/p>\n

Palestinians have feared for many years that Israeli Occupation
\nForces in the West Bank and Gaza have targeted them for organ harvest.<\/p>\n

In an article published in the Washington Report on Middle East Affair, Mary Barrett<\/a>
\nreports on the killings of young Palestinians. Her report contains an
\ninterview with Dr. Hatem Abu Ghazalch, the former chief health official
\nfor the West Bank under Jordanian administration and director of
\nforensic medicine and autopsies. Barrett asks Ghazalch about \u201cthe
\nwidespread anxiety over organ thefts which has gripped Gaza and the
\nWest Bank since the intifada began in December of 1987.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are indications that for one reason or another, organs,
\nespecially eyes and kidneys, were removed from the bodies during the
\nfirst year or year and a half,\u201d Ghazalch responded. \u201cThere
\nwere just too many reports by credible people for there to be nothing
\nhappening. If someone is shot in the head and comes home in a plastic
\nbag without internal organs, what will people assume?\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2000, Nancy Scheper-Huges<\/a>
\ncharacterized organ harvesting as a form of modern cannibalism.
\n\u201cToday, China stands alone in continuing the use of organs of
\nexecuted prisoners for transplant surgery,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Now Israel joins China as an international outlaw in this gruesome practice.<\/p>\n

Organ harvesting will now be added to the list of Israel\u2019s war
\ncrimes and human rights violations in the Occupied Territories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
