More than 350 photographers have issued a joint plea to
\nend the \u201chostile\u201d and \u201chumiliating\u201d use of
\nanti-terror laws to prevent them taking pictures in public.<\/p>\n

The professional and amateur photographers have signed
\na letter, published in The Sunday Telegraph, calling on ministers and
\nthe police halt the practice of them being stopped and searched while
\nthey are taking images in public places.<\/p>\n

Their plea comes despite a warning from senior police to junior
\nofficers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) not to misuse
\nthe controversial legislation.<\/p>\n

The letter, whose signatories include Rosemary Wilman,
\nthe president of the Royal Photographic Society, and the photographer
\nand historian Professor John Hannavy, says:<\/p>\n

\u201cRather than treat photographers as terrorists, the Government
\nshould amend the Anti-Terrorism Act to prevent its misuse and explain
\nto police forces that a hostile attitude towards photographers is
\nunwelcome.\u201d<\/p>\n
