The Metropolitan Police is conducting searches and inquiries into
\nthe Nigeria-origin man, believed to be a London student, who tried to
\ndetonate a bomb on a US aircraft.<\/p>\n

The Metropolitan Police said its officers were liaising with the US
\nauthorities, and University College London, where is reported to be
\nregistered as a student, has confirmed it has a student of the same
\nname.<\/p>\n

The person caused panic on the plane about to land at Detroit with
\n278 people aboard when he reportedly tried to detonate some sort of
\nbomb.<\/p>\n

He was overpowered by passengers after the device failed to ignite properly.<\/p>\n

Reports named him as Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, an engineering
\nstudent at University College London who had applied for a visa to
\nattend a religious seminar.<\/p>\n
