Detroit bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab defended the 9\/11 terror
\nattacks on New York, saying they were justified by American military
\nactivity.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old suspect in the attempted Christmas Day bombing<\/a> of Northwest Flight 253 is reported to have shocked friends with his hardline views as far back as 2001.<\/p>\n

He is said to have justified the plane attacks by saying that US
\ntroops stationed in Saudi Arabia since the 1991 Gulf War had
\n\u201chumiliated\u201d Muslims.<\/p>\n

One friend said the Nigerian\u2019s views had provoked the first
\nrow between them when they discussed the terror attacks in 2006.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were talking about 9\/11. I was saying under no
\ncircumstances could it ever be OK to kill all those innocent people. He
\nwas much more equivocal,\u201d he told US papers.<\/p>\n
