US officials are keeping mostly mum on what they have
\ngleaned from a Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a
\nDetroit-bound airplane despite criticism that they are leaving a
\nfrightened public in the dark.<\/p>\n

Experts said Tuesday that the paucity of public pronouncements will
\nhelp investigators track down his associates and build a stronger
\ncriminal case.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t want to reveal all that they know and they
\ndon\u2019t want Al-Qaeda to know what it is that this guy is actually
\nsaying and how much he\u2019s cooperating,\u201d said Stephen
\nSaltzburg, a former top prosecutor who teaches law at George Washington
\nUniversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey want Al-Qaeda to be guessing about what they don\u2019t
\nknow and they do know and \u2014 depending on what he\u2019s saying
\n\u2014 there may be some retaliatory moves they might make that might
\nnot be as effective if people knew they were in the offing.\u201d<\/p>\n
