According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mercedes-Benz of North America Inc. has paid a $6.8 million fine for failing to comply with U.S. federal fuel-efficiency requirements. Mercedes-Benz paid the fines for violations dealing with passenger vehicles imported for the 2008 model year.<\/p>\n

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration collected fines from six automakers in 2009 totaling more than $13 million. Many luxury\u00a0manufacturers\u00a0consider fuel-efficiency fines as a cost of doing business.<\/p>\n

Mercedes paid a $28.9 million fine last year.<\/p>\n
