He was 47.<\/p>\n<p>Gates was doing electrical work on a roof at a building in Newbury Park, California when he fell 30 feet from a skylight. Gates was an owner of Gateco Electric, which was employed at the site.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.popcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Erik-Gates-Dies-In-Fall.bmp\" alt=\"\" title=\"Erik Gates Dies In Fall\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-86315\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-86314\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;He was a good guy,&#8221;<\/em> Steve DeGennaro, who co-founded Xirrus&#8217; with Gates&#8217; brother, Dirk, tells <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vcstar.com\/news\/2009\/dec\/21\/worker-who-died-in-fall-in-newbury-park\/\">The Ventura County Star<\/a>. <em>&#8220;He survived cancer, he jumps with parachutes, he base jumps. He&#8217;s an active guy who was used to taking precautions.
