Yet, I think rushing to name a new pet is a mistake. I like the idea of taking a couple of days to get to know a cat before pinning him down with a name.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I do realize the cat really <em>doesn&#8217;t<\/em> care. However, it&#8217;s important to us humans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-137527\" src=\"http:\/\/images1.blisstree.com\/files\/2009\/12\/nameless-kitty.jpg\" alt=\"nameless-kitty\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>My tips for naming a new cat<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please yourself and partner cat owners. Pick a name that you and your family love. Don&#8217;t worry if people will roll their eyes if your choice is a little strange. (But please, no foul language for kitty names.)<\/li>\n<li>Do consider (somewhat) if the name will fit on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blisstree.com\/articles\/free-pet-id-card-first-responder-decal\/\">pet tag<\/a> if that&#8217;s important to you. Yes, microchips are great, but I still believe we need conventional tags\/collars too.<\/li>\n<li>Remember it&#8217;s OK to pick a &#8220;people name.&#8221; I think it&#8217;s cute when cats are named Elaine or Ellie. Though there&#8217;s nothing wrong with <strong>traditional cat names<\/strong>, you shouldn&#8217;t limit yourself either.<\/li>\n<li>Try to pick a name that describes your cat&#8217;s personality. Though it may be funny to give a sweet cat a famous gangster name, you might grow tired of it.<\/li>\n<li>Be a bit original. If you name a tuxedo cat Sylvester, you might get made fun of. I&#8217;ve seen it happen. However, if your heart is set on such a name, go with it anyway.
