Viewers who tuned into the Weather Channel Sunday night were treated to a tearjerker with a side of sunny skies as meteorologist Kim Perez got an on-air proposal from her longtime boyfriend, police sergeant Marty Cunningham. Kim had just predicted rainfall for Florida and the Southeast this New Year’s Eve when Marty stumbled onto the set.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi!\u201d<\/em> said the mother of three.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow are you?\u201d<\/em> Marty asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood!\u201d<\/em> Kim replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been talking about this for a long time, and I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So I\u2019m asking you today,”<\/em> he started getting down on one knee, \u201cWill you please marry me?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI will,\u201d<\/em> Kim said, smiling. <\/p>\n

Don’t you just love a happy ending?<\/p>\n

Kim has been obsessed with meteorology ever since she was a little girl. <\/p>\n

\u201cI first realized that gender may be an issue very young,\u201d<\/em> Kim wrote on The Weather Channel website. \u201cWhen I told someone I wanted to be a meteorologist, they asked why a nice girl like me would want to study meteors! I didn\u2019t understand the problem until I started looking though books and doing research, I couldn\u2019t find any women meteorologists, not even on TV!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Atlanta-based Weather Channel says the couple plan to have a small wedding with family and friends \u2014 likely on the 13th of whatever month they choose, since Marty’s lucky number is 13.<\/p>\n
