{"id":123975,"date":"2010-01-01T11:50:17","date_gmt":"2010-01-01T16:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.jwatch.org\/hiv-id-observations\/?p=661"},"modified":"2010-01-01T11:50:17","modified_gmt":"2010-01-01T16:50:17","slug":"top-10-stories-of-the%c2%a0year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/123975","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 Stories of the\u00a0Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-662\" title=\"father_time5\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.jwatch.org\/hiv-id-observations\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/father_time5-183x300.jpg\" alt=\"father_time5\" width=\"183\" height=\"300\" \/>No end-of-year wrap-up is complete without a &#8220;Top 10&#8243; list, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/aids-clinical-care.jwatch.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/2009\/1228\/1?q=featured_ac\" >Journal Watch: AIDS Clinical Care<\/a><\/em> is no exception.<\/p>\n<p>This year we did two lists, one chosen by the <a href=\"http:\/\/aids-clinical-care.jwatch.org\/top_stories\/editors_choice.dtl\" >Editors<\/a>, the other a numeric tally of what&#8217;s read on line by the <a href=\"http:\/\/aids-clinical-care.jwatch.org\/top_stories\/most_read.dtl\" >Readers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;When to start&#8221; issue was the top story from the Editors.<\/p>\n<p>The big hit from Readers was the case of occupational exposure from a source patient who refused testing.\u00a0 (I posted it <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.jwatch.org\/hiv-id-observations\/index.php\/occupational-exposures-and-hiv-testing\/2009\/06\/13\/\" >here<\/a> this past June.)<\/p>\n<p>Not much overlap between the two lists, reflecting I think several issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Editors are choosing from scientific advances; the readers from what they find clinically useful or interesting.\u00a0 They can be the same thing, but they don&#8217;t have to be.\u00a0 (Hardly doubt many were counting on IL-2 to enter the clinics this year, for example.)<\/li>\n<li>What people read on-line may be different from what they consider important.\u00a0 Some on-line stuff is just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o\" >fun<\/a>.\u00a0 Or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixx.com\/videos\/9580453\/youtube_silent_monks_singing_halleluia\" >funny<\/a>.\u00a0 Or <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/12\/28\/when-the-doctor-gets-sued\/\" >controversial.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The on-line readership is given a big boost from <a href=\"http:\/\/firstwatch.jwatch.org\/\" >Physician&#8217;s First Watch<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hope you enjoy, and Happy New Year!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/HivAndIdObservations\/~4\/_vvXOxLv-YU\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No end-of-year wrap-up is complete without a &#8220;Top 10&#8243; list, and Journal Watch: AIDS Clinical Care is no exception.
