China’s Purchasing Manufacturers Index (PMI) shot to a 20-month high in December, blowing past expectations of 55.4 and hitting 56.6. Anything over 50 indicates an expansion of activity.<\/p>\n

This coincides with the manufacturing acceleration witnessed in other Asian nations as well. Japan’s PMI has begun rising again<\/a> while Korea’s manufacturing is expanding as well<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg:<\/a> “Manufacturing will stay at a high level as industrial production quickens and companies receive more orders for new- year holiday sales,” Lu Zhengwei, an economist at Industrial Bank Co. in Shanghai, said before today’s data. “Exports may return to growth in December, aiding manufacturing growth.”<\/p>\n

Industrial production grew in November at the fastest pace since March 2008, exports dropped the least in 13 months <\/strong>and imports surged.<\/p>\n

Today’s figure compares with a record-low 38.8 in November 2008, when recessions in the U.S., Europe and Japan sent export orders plunging.<\/p>\n
