I recently had a baby girl in May ’09 and was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes but was able to control well with diet. I am currently at least 40 pounds overweight, without much physical activity. I’ve been concerned about developing Type 2 diabetes so I’ve been trying to track my glucose. My FBG is usually in the 90s, but I have had two readings that were 100 and 102. My sleep is not very good quality and often sleep in late and then take my fasting glucose numbers. My 2hr postprandial with a high protein, high fiber and low carb foods are usually good, staying below 120 and sometimes even in the 80s and 90s. However, if I do eat something that is sugary or has a good amount of carbs, my numbers will be close to 140-160. I don’t know if I am prediabetic and should consult an endo. I called my doctor’s office because I was concerned and I was told by the nurse that my numbers are still within good range and that I should just keep monitoring and try to stick to a good diet and exercise. Should I be more concerned and just push to be screened for diabetes? My FBG numbers have been in the 90’s and 80’s when I’ve had them done by the lab, but I don’t know what my A1C is. I know I need to lose the weight and I have been working on that.
