It’s a new year, and it’s a time for big dreams. While you’re dreaming of losing ten pounds though, Square Enix wants to use the year to “take root” in an effort to eventually lead the entire entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s a common practice for Japanese companies to issue statements at the beginning of a new year. Square Enix’s message, titled “Taking Root,” suggests that video games will soon be competing with the likes of movie studios, if they aren’t already. <\/p>\n

\n“In the near future, the rate of convergence between video games and other digital entertainment content will only continue to accelerate,” Square Enix president Yoichi Wada said in a statement (via Kotaku<\/a>). <\/p>\n
