{"id":138092,"date":"2010-01-04T21:53:43","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T02:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"Gizmodo-5440159"},"modified":"2010-01-04T21:53:43","modified_gmt":"2010-01-05T02:53:43","slug":"understanding-windows-7s-godmode-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/138092","title":{"rendered":"Understanding Windows 7&#8217;s &#8216;GodMode&#8217; [Windows]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"http:\/\/cache.gawker.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/01\/windows_7_godmode_610x404.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawker.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/01\/500x_windows_7_godmode_610x404.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a>Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden &#8220;GodMode&#8221; feature that lets users access all of the operating system&#8217;s control panels from within a single folder.<\/p>\n<p>By creating a new folder in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnet.com\/windows-7\/\">Windows 7<\/a> and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.<\/p>\n<p>The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sitepoint.com\/blogs\/2010\/01\/05\/windows-7-god-mode\/#\">some are warning<\/a> that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.<\/p>\n<p>To enter &#8220;GodMode,&#8221; one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Once that is done, the folder&#8217;s icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I&#8217;m not sure it&#8217;s my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve asked Microsoft for more details on the feature and how it came to be.
