It has come to this.<\/p>\n

Already shoeless, beltless and waterless, more beleaguered air
\npassengers will be holding their legs apart, raising their arms and
\neffectively baring it all as they pass through U.S. airport security
\ncheckpoints.<\/p>\n

Add the \u201cfull-body scan\u201d to the list of indignities that
\nsome travelers are confronting in the post-Sept. 11, 2001, era of
\nvigilance.<\/p>\n

Federal authorities, working to close security gaps exposed by the
\nthwarted Christmas Day terrorist attack on a Detroit-bound airliner,
\nare multiplying the number of imaging machines at the nation\u2019s
\nbiggest airports. The devices scan passengers\u2019 bodies and produce
\nX-ray-like images that can reveal objects concealed beneath clothes.<\/p>\n
