\"APGeneral Motors said Monday that it sold a record 1.83 million vehicles in China last year, <\/span>a 66.9 percent jump over 2008, AFP reports<\/a>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

GM also expressed optimism that 2010 will see even more sales<\/a>. The company’s<\/span> market share was up 1.3 percentage points to an estimated 13.4 percent.<\/p>\n

GM China Group president Kevin Wale noted that China, whose car sales surpassed the U.S.’s for the first time last January, would play a leading role in driving GM’s overall sales.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the Asian giant’s total auto sales for the first 11 months of 2009 reached 12.23 million units.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Shanghai GM, a joint venture with China’s largest auto maker SAIC Motor Corp, saw sales rise 63.3 percent from the previous year to 727,620 units in 2009.<\/p>\n

Back in November, the auto giant announced that it would begin paying back bailout funds<\/a> before the end of 2009.<\/p>\n
