And yet the story behind <A href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/33808214\/\">rabbit penises redux<\/A> &#8211; or, to use a less Latinate phrase, rabbit penises&nbsp;brought back to life &#8211; is a tale worth retelling.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The <A href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2009\/11\/12\/0909367106.abstract\">research into restoring penile function in bunnies<\/A>, conducted at the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.wfubmc.edu\/wfirm\/\">Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine<\/A> in North Carolina and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences&nbsp;in November, was the top vote-getter in this year&#8217;s <A href=\"http:\/\/technology-science.newsvine.com\/_question\/2009\/12\/23\/3669699-what-gets-your-vote-for-weirdest-science\">unscientific Newsvine poll<\/A> for the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/34712701\/ns\/technology_and_science-science\/\">Weird Science Awards<\/A>. The &#8220;Weirdies&#8221; recognize 10 of the strangest scientific stories published over the previous year.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Rebuilding rabbit penises may indeed sound strange, but there&#8217;s&nbsp;a serious point behind the research.
