He was put on ventilator after acute breathing problems. According to the family and hospital sources, the veteran communist leader breathed his last at 1.30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Basu was admitted to hospital last Friday and his condition was improving till yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Jyoti Basu served as the longest Chief Minister of India. He was the chief minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was succeeded by Buddhadev Bhattacharya in the office.<\/p>\n<p>He was the member of CPI (M) Politburo from the time of party\u2019s founding in 1964 till 2008.<br \/>\nAs per a report published on kalponik.us, he died at around 1:30 pm today, 6th January 2010. He developed breathing trouble at early morning hours and was shifted to theventilator in the afternoon hours.
